Wolfgang's Vault

"Wolfgang" is legendary 60s and 70's rock concert promoter Bill Graham.

Once you've resisted spending all your money on Grateful Dead and Aerosmith tee-shirts (or when you've had to remortgage the house) you might want to try out the archives of concert recordings. These are "free" as in "free beer". You have to register, but that doesn't cost anything and there's no sudden influx of spam as a result. A lot of these recordings are from the 60s and 70s - which will suit those of us who wish we'd been alive then or want to relive past glories. There's even (have the smelling salts handy) a fair sprinkling from THE EIGHTIES. Aarrrrghhhhh

You may be pleasantly surprised by the quality - of performance and recording. I've enjoyed an incomplete but still excellent set by The Band, and there's a 1973 Stones show with Mick and Co really cooking and tight and Mick Taylor in particularly good form.

I'm surprised no one has said thanks.

Great find, thanks for sharing, when i get a chance i'll be sure to check it out.

Woah! Awesome find sir! My ADSL is acting up but I had a brief look through on 3G and there is some really cool stuff on there! Will check it out properly at a later stage.

Karma'ed!

That does look good Bob, thanks. Unfortunately I have tanked 33 Gigs this month (out of an allotted 30), so am on extremely short rations until the end of the month and will have to wait before checking it out properly.

And added to the vault this weekend is a 1977 Halloween concert by Frank Zappa with a band including Adrian Belew

Though I ended up listening to a 1974 Ry Cooder show. Marvelous stuff. Cooder plus a rhythm section and fantastic doo-wop backing vocals. Great ragtime and slide guitar from Cooder.

Thanks Bob. Unfortunately I've already got a copy of that one and the other Zappa concerts on the site, but when I get some time, I'll browse for other interesting stuff.

Two of us, both working from home, both doing bandwidth intensive stuff (my wife does a lot of picture research for books and I have a few musical software beta-testing gigs, we both upload and download a lot of PDF book chapters and high res photos). Plus the occasional streaming video or MP3. I'm fielding easily 200 emails a day too, and it all adds up.

Tell me, do you spend any time playing your guitar?

Not as much as I want to - I have to work to pay for the music/camera/computer gear.
