I like to sing and listen to country, and I have one very simple reason. If you're over 30, you cannot even enter into singing competitions anymore. Most singers in the pop genre have a 'shelf-life' There are a few exceptions like the Stones etcetera, but that (I assume) is only if you're super-popular. I'm sure you get what I mean....
Country however...even local guys like Bobby Angel, Tommy Dell, and Lance James are still getting gigs well into their 70's
Not just country. A good example being Robert Plant, now in his 60s and still going very strong. Not resting on his laurels either.
The last few years I've seen plenty of live acts where there's a fair sprinkling of grey hair (or even a shortage of hair!).
Tom Jones is still doing well - but he still has the voice as well.
It's about audiences that value craft over fashion.
