Anyone else hate blue LEDs?

I hate Blue LEDs. I know they are fashionable at the moment, more expensive and thus "cool", but I find they are too bright and for some reason make text labels difficult to focus on and read. This is especially bad with the clear blue models. The thing is my Octaswitch has sixteen of the damn things on and when there are four or five lit up at the same time, things get a bit intense. So I'm gong to buy a bag full of normal red LEDs and get out the soldering iron... I must say though - back when I last bought LEDs (probably early 90's), it was a lot simpler. You asked for LEDs and they asked "red, yellow or green?". Now there are so many different varieties, sizes, shapes, brightnesses, mountings, etc. that you actually have to know exactly what you want.

The Monte Allums mod for the GE7 comes with an excessively bright white LED. The good news is that even when I do eventually go blind (or will need glasses) I will have no trouble telling if its on or not

I know the feeling...the painful stabbed in the eyes with an eye-gouger headstock feeling. ? And I only have 5 blue LEDs on my board. ???

On the other hand, everyone knows that blue LEDs literally double your tone and sprinkle your sound with magic tone mojo fairy dust. I mean, if they didn't have the aforementioned benefits, why would all the boutique builders be using blue LEDs? :?

Well that completely settles it then. ? Rare and expensive = magic tone mojo fairy dust. Add in a waiting list to get one and that triples the fairy dust factor! ?

Therefore all pedals that are only available on a waiting list (or for astronomical sums 2nd hand) AND have a blue LED are the best sounding pedals by a far ?

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was a trainee technician at what was then the SA Post Office. I started this training in Durban. Early on all use first-year types were taken to a variety of installations to help us decide what speciality we'd like to pursue (microwave, two-motion exchanges, Siemens exchanges, teletype etc etc). We got take to a microwave station in, IIRC, Overport. We were treated to lurid tales of how the technicians at that station made toasted sandwiches and birds that would fall down dead having just been zapped by the microwaves.

The microwaves were conducted around the exchange in wave guides - it was impossible to take them along cables. A wave guide was a tube with a thin gold plating inside. They were supposed to be terminated at each end so that passing technicians would not meet the same fate as birds and toasted sandwiches.

There was one length of unterminated guide. Some wag had put up a sign that read "do not look into this wave guide with your remaining eye."

Alan's board reminded me of this.

i liked blue before reading this thread ....but ja the logic is right , blue burns into yr retina's after a while ...but sure looks cool ?

Blinking LED's on pedals that are not siwtched on, ala Dr Scientist trem and nova delay are even worse.

I hate red LED's but not all of them. In fact only the one on my Laney Cub. Which works sometimes and sometimes it doesnt. That's not too serious but it's not right ne? When I bought the amp and saw this situation I got hold of Laney in UK and the response I got was that it's not serious so I shouldnt worry about it. Strooth! So at this stage it's just one red LED I hate. Maybe there'll be more at some stage but not now that I can think of. But I hate all blue LED's because I like to go with the flow.

Bob I did many Microwave installations in the Free State area, during line-ups often when moving test gear between the channels we would forget to terminate some of the power amps and after a few minutes you would get this hotflush feeling ? and you would know you got nuked .... must be why I cant remember why I wanted to share this with you ......
