gfsa awards anyone?

So folks.. Seeing as we spend as much time on here as we all do, how we sort of know one another around the site (by and large the same community for a while)..

How about we start the gfsa awards which we have annually around december.. I'm not talking fancy gala event with caviar, les pauls and moet, I'm talking we vote for a few categories, put some vote threads up during november, and announce the winners in december. These winners could have something in their avatars or signatures almost like a floating trophy..

Good idea? Shart idea?

Ermm, titles could be serious or not,

Stuff like best performance pic
Best gear pic
Biggest gear whore
Best pedal board
Best lesson post
Biggest douche
Most lovelorn gfsa'er (ahem)

Etc etc.. If you think this feasible, let's lay down some categories, maybe 10 or so, then we can get submissions for contenders, then a vote,

If this is a waste of time, then let's not lol

I don't think it's a good idea if there is any "award" with any kind of negative connotation. If this must happen - and I'm not sure it should - then let's at least have a policy of only affirming the positive.

I don't think its a bad idea.

Especially if the topics are interesting.

Things like best build, best restoration, best find.
Topics that won't promote jockeying for votes but will honour the awesomeness of the topic.

Maybe have best new brand? Best new amp, guitar, pedal etc. Decided by a panel, maybe the mods?

Not particularly keen on this.

What I have thought of before is a "post of the week" and/or a "thread of the week" kind of thing (across all categories). We have some excellent info being shared here and it would be nice to give credit to the posters who share their knowledge by sharing it with a wider audience. I can put up a page with each week's winner and push the post specifically on Facebook and in the newsletter. The page will also make an interesting jump off point for new members or to find older but really useful posts.

Not sure how it will work yet, but maybe just an extra link on each post where you can nominate a post if you think it is a viable candidate. Every week I take a look at nominations and put up a voting thread with all the nominations.

Or something...

i'm with aubs on this one......... no need for any "awards" "special mentions" ect .........

and especially NOT any negative ones ........ cos as we all know many a harsh word or derogetory , discriminatory comment already on this forum has been said in what the poster called "jest" and when read by others i doubt the all the forum members see the funny side......... (that case with the 'black humour" not so long ago comes to mind as a prime example) so any negative comments or awards even tho they meant to be tongue in cheek will be offensive to some

my question is why should everything be turned into "a competition" ???? lets just share our experiences with our gear and influences ....

Just as side note, never saw this as a competition inducing mechanism, more like a recognize and blow the trumpet type of thing, but after reading some posts I realize it could all go very pearshaped, very quickly..

No stress either way.. Seen this work on another forum and thought it may work here too.. It generated some laughs and all that thus the suggestion.
Alan, what you suggested about nominating a thread may be an idea. Similar to the reporting icon, except this is for good stuff..
