I'm very curious what other forum members think about this discussion. It runs along similar lines to those discussions about cloned / copied equipment , as apposed to name brand equipment.....maybe more members can share their thoughts here please .thnx. :-[
I disagree - unless we argue that all guitars with 6 strings and frets at semi tone intervals are clones (which, in a way, they are).
In many disciplines there are rudiments. These are the basic theory. Everything else is built on those. Master those rudiments and you have a great foundation and can move onto other things with some chance of making sense of them.
In a way it doesn't much matter if you learn them in a formal situation or get shown them informally or read about them on the 'net or whatever. The important thing is to know them.
The key thing about formal tuition is that, with a good teacher, you get lots of rudiments early on instead of stumbling across them. The key ingredient whichever way you do it (and I don't believe anybody these days is 100% self taught) is your own effort. The top guys all put in loads of effort to get where they are, whether they had formal tuition or not.
