Thought it would be interesting to set up a thread on Guitar Myths.
Any interesting input out there.
One such example is 100 fender Strats made in the sixties, fiesta Red sprayed over sunburst bodies being possibly the most sought after strats ever.
Could be an interesting thread.

Never heard it before you posted. The myth probably comes from, as Vic said, the notion that '68 LPs (the first reissues after LP production stopped in '60) were made with left over '60 bodies. As far as I know, this is not true either.

Brass nuts increase sustain? (I'm talking about the ones on the neck ? )

Gibson instituted lawsuits against all Japanese clone manufacturers and hence there are "pre-lawsuit" models (this is BS, but there's an origin to the story).

Les Paul designed the Gibson Les Paul? (very common misconception this - only a few of his suggestions (the gold colour and the trapeze tailpiece - soon to be abandoned) - were accepted by the design team as I understand it.

huge fail .......... it sure makes a player feel better (which is in itself not a bad thing ) ? and it generates interest by other muso's asking them about their instrument ........ but in all my years as a tutor working with 'developing musicians" i'm yet to see a boutique/vintage /top end guitar make a player sound better than the level they at musically ........

please note.....when i mention entry level ........we not talking about badly designed entry level guitars with crazy insane string heights and tuners that go out of tune every 5 min or with necks that flex under slightest pressure......cos then the guitar can make a huge difference .. but by entry level it's a well made but cheap entry level instrument (like most are today) like cheap corts/ibanez/sx ect ect one that stays in tune and is playable .even if it does not have all the bells and whistles or best pups......

i must say a "beginner" player can be inspired by a great guitar .however in my experience that inspiration never lasts long enough in most cases to be a factor that will make a good argument that it will lead to them being driven by that inspiration to be better musicians ,..it usually wears off in a few weeks , cos the only thing that makes a player better is "music education" either by oneself or thru a tutor and hard work and years of practise ......." 1% inspiration ..99% perspiration"

It's also in the guitar and amp.... Peter Green on a starfire kit will sound pretty rubbish....

I've got to disagree with that one. Meir (my teacher) has played utter rubbish amps and guitars right in front of me and still sounded amazing! Sure he was frustrated as hell but that's another thing altogether.

I'm sure what people mean is that a good player with good technique can play cleanly through a shit amp and guitar and therefore sound not quite as shit.

But I cannot believe that there is some inherent quality of "tone" imparted by fingertips.

Yes I agree with Don. BB King through a starfire starter kit will sound like BB King through a starfire starter kit. Not quite the same vibe as he imparts with his 355 + Fender. Its the man(woman) not the machine, but use the right stuff.
