Explorerlover Anybody use this effect? I came across it on the GT8 and tried to use it, but it just sounds like a noise to me no matter how I tried to adjust it. Also, does anybody know of a band or guitarist that uses/used this effect.?
AlanRatcliffe LOL! Ring modulators are not the most musical of effects. Used in synths to make atonal bell sounds. Can't think of one recorded example. Wait... one of the Audioslave tracks uses one... can't remember which tho...

andrewjbryson Thats correct, Tom Morello uses a few ring modulation effects on the 1st AudioSlave album
dyllels The all powerful Wikipedia says that a ring modulator was used on the solo on 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath. But, i don't have the song so i cant hear it to check what it sounds like and if its noticeable ???
andrewjbryson thats interesting, i never noticed it but then again i was listenin to sabbath in high school before i developed an ear
AlanRatcliffe Actually - I never knew that was a ring mod either. Always presumed it was a Fuzz Face freaking out. Haven't listened to it for years either (Ozzy's monotone gets to me), but now I think of it, it's obviously a ring mod, although I'd say it's got a fair bit of the original guitar sound mixed in too.
Guy-Onraet Ring modulators are awesome. Guthrie Govan and Wayne Krantz both use i ring modulator live and in studio. GG's robot solo in his track "Erotic Cakes" is fantastically musical.
AlanRatcliffe GG's robot solo in his track "Erotic Cakes" is fantastically musical. When is that man ever not fantastically musical? ?

deanBailey I've too never found any use for Ring Modulation lol Just listened to Paranoid, The solo does use it but it sounds as if it's been duplicated and panned hard left and right lol. OD Solo left and OD solo with Ring mod on the Right. It actually sounds like dirt and without the solo on the left I don't think it would have worked out. Seems the effect is only used as a layer to be used with a cleaner tone instead?
Guy-Onraet i'll bring a track for you to hear when i come and visit your studio. solo, no dry signal, no duplication, no panning, just Ring Modulator licks of doom! ?
