Hehe. Don'd dis the 3 piece necks Vic. The Norlin fans will eat you for breakfast. As they point out, Gibson's flagship model in the '50s, the L5 had a three piece maple neck. The mahogany necks on LPs were a concession to keeping the guitar cheaper. It certainly does not negatively affect the tone and makes the necks slightly hardier. I also prefer mahogany. But it's purely out of the tradition of the thing.
