its to build a small diaphragm condenser mic.

i always wanted to build a mic, but this one seems basic enough, so i gonna to some more research on the topic, and hopefully build a mic or 2(stereo pair ?)..........

don't know what your thoughts on ribbon are, but i posted about building a DIY ribbon mic a while back. some companies even go as far as offering kits.

if you're interested in that let me know and i'll send you a link, otherwise if you search DIY ribbon mic on the forum you'll find my post.

regardless, if you decide to go through with the condenser, i hope you'll let us know how it goes! i'd love to build a couple of mics in the future. as soon as the "capital" (gas) fund allows for it ?

yes i know all about the ribbons builds, you'll see i commented alot on that thread.

its jsut that a ribbon costs more money to build, i first want to find out if i have the patience to build a small condenser mic before i go onto something bigger.

......i would love to be able to build a U47.......

i haven't started doing research yet, but i think the electret might be difficult to find

Why would you go for U47 amd not U87? Maybe a dumb question I dunno, but it seems to me that the net agrees 87 is the ultimate?

dont know, i haven't worked with any of the 2, but i had a quick listen at a u47 replica at a friends studio, and it sounds good.

its just from what i read on the internet i suppose, the way the mic was used on kick drums and stuff on the beatles records.

i will probably never build one, but then again, you never know what the future holds.......

but the first thing now is to try and find those Transound TSB-165A capsules, and see if i can get something working.
