Just a question about the Boss GT-10 and related to the GT-8 also: Does the expression pedal function as a wah pedal also?

the expression pedal functions as anything you assign it as on a patch-by-patch basis - so it can be a volume on on patch, a wah on another and a crossfade between two amp sounds on another. Cool, huh?

i would say guitar rig,got WAY more options for you and it's got cool amp modeling...

are you playing guitar rig out your PC into your amp or guitar rig through speakers(monitors)? if you playing into an amp then the GT-10 would be better(IMO). if you wanna go cheaper and have the same benefits guitar rig and a decent monitors would be better... but if you just sitting at home jamming for fun then guitar rig and the monitors

bet then again it's only my opinion...alan will probably give you better advice,so i'm handing you over to him ?

To be honest difficult for me to say - I was a recording engineer long before I started using multieffects. Compared to many of the Lexicon, TC and other studio units these are a breeze. They are both very powerful, and while complex, have handled it by making things simple to operate on the surface, but still offering extra layers of complexity within easy access for those of us that want it.

I've always found the Boss stuff incredibly intuitive (I don't think I've needed to even get the last few manuals out of the plastic), but I have used their processors since the old GL-100 (in fact, the GT-10 is the first one I haven't owned), and there has been a consistency in the menu system from the very first digital units - they have just expanded on it with each new model. The software editors on the newer processors are very user-friendly.

I also had no problem adapting to Guitar Rig. Aside from a few small niggly things, it is the best option as far as I am concerned. It has a lot more power and flexibility (Roland are crowing about two effects chains in the GT-10, I wrote a patch this morning where I used about four ?). For the home studio guy, I think it's definitely the best option as you can have multiple instances running and change the effects/amps/mics at any stage right up until mixdown. It also has the advantage of you knowing people who use it regularly and might be willing to help or even share patches. ?

Whoops - I just realised this is in the classified section. Not fair of us to talk of the pros and cons of something competing with the item the OP is trying to sell. I'll move this part of the thread to a new thread...

thanks guys...I kinda had my mind set on Guitar Rig, but then some adds on Gumtree for the GT-8 got me wondering again, but I think Guitar Rig will after all work out best for me after all.

I used a GT-6 for a couple of years for playing out. I didn't grade up to 8 because It didn't offer anything useful to me over the GT-6. In my somewhat low budget studio I always have used amp sims and FX plug-ins on top of a dry guitar signal because it gives me the best quality and the greatest flexibility. At the beginning of this year I decided that I was sick and tired of working out a brilliant sound patch for the GT-6 and for then again Guitar Rig. For me it had to be one or the other. There was no way that the GT-6 could do what Guitar Rig could do in the studio so it GR3 won the day. The big crunch was can you take Guitar Rig on stage - you need a computer - you need a computer - computers are bad they can hang up on you ☹ After much careful consideration I rationalised that a laptop running only guitar rig with a Rig Kontroller as it's sound card is less likely to hang up than a valve amp is likely to give electronic troubles, earth leak, blow a tube etc. Besides a laptop just needs to be rebooted and if that doesn't work have a spare laptop at hand. ?

For me, it will only be used in the studio, no live playing at all. So it seems GR 3 is the way to go. I suspect quite a learning curve, but hey what are friends for? ?

One thing I'm uncertain about: the controller pedal of GR3 is a soundcard also, right? Is it possible to use it if one has another soundcard (Edirol FA-66) already? Will there be conflicts?

GR3 Software will work with any sound card so you wont need to go for the RK3 pedal (that'll save you some dosh) if you still want a pedal board to control GR3 you could should look at what Behringer has to offer ?

The Behringer FCB 1010 is a solid, versatile midi based foot controller. You can pick them up cheap if you look around a bit.

I paid 2k for pedals including a V-amp pro effects processor, so R1000 - R1500 is a fair 2nd hand price.

Remember that you will need at least one MIDI port to use the FCB 1010 with your setup. The FA-66 has both in and out ports, so you'd be set using them together.

I'm using an Edirol UA-25 for my GR PC (I bought it specifically for that job) and it's working very well. You just need to use the front input that is switchable for high impedance if you're plugging the guitar in directly.

I've also got a Behringer FCB1010, better than the Rig Kontrol or the equivalent Roland as it has two expression pedals. Quite honestly, in studio you don't always need a floor controller though.

Th real advantage of the RK3 over the Behringer FCB1010 is it is a 4 ch, (2 in 2 out) HQ audio interface, its a USB external midi interface, it maps automatically to GR3 and the pedal control messages do not use midi (strangely enough) and use less processing overhead. The pedal is both light and compact (easily fit into a laptop bag) and is powered thru USB so that means less wires less fuss and more music. *Rene looks up to the gods of NI and hopes they will remember him at Christmas time*
