"but I'm yet to find an up to date online go-to gig guide". no problem. make one. can't be that difficult these days with twitter accounts being linked to facebook accounts and all those wonderful things. give it some thought and i'm sure you'll come up wiff a solution.

I've been down that brainstorm road. The band creates a gig guide to promote its gigs, what then, where do you draw the line creating your own infrastructure? You may as well buy a R100k PA, a big bus, a venue, loads of drugs and become a promoter. Most of the local music sites where established by musos to create a platform for their music, 5 years later the site lays derelict and they probably are'nt doing music. And the local scene being the selfish creature that it is, other bands and even promoters wont use it because it might divert attention away from them and theirs to you. You need maximum buy in, participation from the artists.
