So I've just gotten one of those vox ac4 tv mini stacks (1x12)to replace my old 50 watt Marshall head. I'm still in the no master volume territory, but where as my big muff shone through on my Marshall it now creates a swirly, creamy, muddy sound on the vox. Ive also noticed it doesn't happen when I've set the pedal to the treble side of the tone control, or if I don't play low notes.
My assumption is that something can't deal with all that bottom end. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Does anyone know whether it's the amp or speaker?
It happens when the amp is in overdrive.
It also used to happen when I tried running the big muff into my tubeman's rhythm channel.
Is this a tube overload?
Help.
Ps. No I can't afford to special order a fuzz pedal made by Tibetan yaks once every 10 centuries. I'm just trying to understand why it does what it does and what causes the sound.
Thanks fellas

I suspect what you are describing is the speaker flubbing out on the low frequencies. Some speakers just can't handle lots of lows. Best way to confirm is to plug into another cab.

I'm just trying to understand exactly the sound you're describing... I know when playing my guitars through my Peavey (and I think through my Laney, haven't played through that in a while though...) if I play the bottom strings and let them sustain, I get something resembling "beating," in other words, the volume increases and decreases at a frequency of about 4 Hertz. I always assumed it was the way I had my guitars and amp set... Is this the same sound you're referring to?

I'll give another cab a go. That may work.
It's not a beating sound, it's more of like a muddy moan that swirls. I see the muff is often described as creamy, and I'm beginning to wonder if that's not what they're describing. It never does this through The clean amps I've used.
My concern is that I'm frying valves and/or the speaker.

Speaker flubbing with some cone cry thrown in for added swirlies. All still the speaker not coping with what you are throwing at it.
