Hi Guys,
I was going through a music book and came across temp “names”. I only found the beats per minute of one and that is the moderate tempo which is between 108 and 112 bpm. Can anyone help me with the list below?
1. With swing:
2. Not too slow:
3. With movement:
4. Tenderly:
5. Not too fast:
6. Mournfully:
7. Up-tempo:
8. Slowly:
9. Fast:
I know this is a rather elementary question, but I would like to have my timing correct. :-\
Have a great and peaceful week.

I always reckoned those 'allegro ma non troppo' thingies were from before musicians were able to buy watches, hourglasses or whatever they had. Or before they learned to count past eight ?
If you put your scale in ascending order, you can calibrate it with two to three examples, and you have one already.

10. Very frikkin' fast - 220 bpm - { Chris Adler - Lamb of God }

Many of those seem to refer more to the feel and dynamics than to the actual tempos - or at worst be meaningless ("Not too fast"? C'mon...). "Swing" timing is a subtle shift towards a triplet feel. When in doubt, find a recorded example or two of the song in question and work out the actual timing.
