Satriani
Hi everybody. I'm not much good with the internet and websites and the like, but thought I'd give it a shot. I have decided to put together a band of 4 muso's (including myself) to do a full out Joe Satriani Tribute tour around South Africa. I am looking for a vastly experienced drummer, who can handle just about anything, a bassist and a prettry good rhythym guitarist. I have got someone in East London comingup to Joburg in the next 2 months.
I have NO doubt that it will be a success, because everytime I go somewhere and perform any Satriani tunes, the place goes wild, and always ask for more. I have tired of using backtracks to perform with. I want to create an energy on stage, so if you have what it takes, or know somebody who does, please feel free to contact me.
PS - This band will also do standard rock tunes, bit of blues etc....
NorioDS
Hey man, if you're prepared to teach me the rhythm parts, I'm up for the challenge.
Satriani
You won't have alot of time to learn them (approx 30 songs), but sure, give it a shot!
NorioDS
Which songs are you wanting to play and do you have sheet music for them or something like that?
And when would you want me to be ready by and how many gigs would you want to do a week and when would you want to practise?
Satriani
I have sheet music for most, but it's all on my PC which at the moment is MIA. I can show you all the chords and chord extensions needed for the stuff, but there will also be harmonies to play as well.
I'll give u a 'mini-list' so long, as well as their Keys
1) Surfing with the Alien (G)
2) Always with me, Always with you (B)
3) Circles (E)
4) Summer Song (A)
5) BAck to Shalla-bal (B)
6) Belly Dancer (G)
7) Ten Words (C)
8) Super Collossal (C#)
9) Love Thing (E)
and so on and so forth ?
I can show u any parts you like, just swing past ?
NorioDS
How often would you want to rehearse and how many gigs would you want to do?
I'm prepared to commit to this if I can. I can't imagine a better way of getting exposure and experience.
NorioDS
If I could afford to, I would stop all the work I do now and just rehearse and play, man!
Still working on that though ?
Satriani
Obviously as much rehearsing as possible, cause I wanna get this thing going by LATEST February. How much gigging all depends on response from audiences, but in my experience, it's always been good.
NorioDS
Okay let me be more specific ?
Once a week, twice a week or more?
I can probably manage twice a week tops, like say Monday and Thursday nights or something to leave weekends open for gigging.
As for learning the songs, let's set aside a day real soon and I'll pop over and we can begin. Then based on my progress you can decide if you want to use me?
cain
Good luck dudes, its gonna be tough
NorioDS
Dude, be positive man. This is the beginning of something awesome.
You're like the Grinch or something ?
cain
No im not, that would mean jim carrey and then i would be awesome and rich, which im not. I just mean good luck and work hard ?
NorioDS
Hehehe, thanks man. Appreciated!
Now let's just see if Meir accepts me ?
Satriani
ok, come around Mon/Thu nights for now, lets see how it goes.
We'll start with the simple tunes, and see how it goes. Even if you don't get it right by Feb, and I find someone who does, doesn't mean ur out of the picture. You have an extreme passion for Satriani and his music, so I would rather you than someone else ?
NorioDS
Saweet man ? I'll work hard and do my best to make sure I can learn the songs in time for February. I'm looking forward to this in a big way ?
