leadbreak ?

1.Hi all, should the leadbreak you play always incorporate the melody of the song.... or should no note choice come into the way of a good feeling solo? Just curious ?

If you're jamming for Bon Jovi or most pop rock bands, then the song or vocal melody generally is the solo played with bends and 'zazz'. In jazz terms(I'm not an expert) the lead break would build from the main melody motif. The best solo's to me harmonize with the main melody, but dont repeat the ideas.

I don't play that much lead but when I do I try to oppose the melody. Most of my 'breaks' a rythm based, if that makes sense.
