I wonder who can remember when they first started playing guitar? It seems everybody I see or heard of has like being plaing FOREVER and realy does not struggle with anything anymore, and almost everything has been done, got the T-shirt etc.Nothing new there.... Take the Metronome for example...

After I have complained about my own jerky style of unflowing music, my teacher suggested I aquire one of these dudes, which I did...

Guess what? That thing is on my nerves like a pirannha on the backside...and one can almost feel the teeth tearing through your clothes and you know the next snap is flesh... does it stop, noooo.... ?
But fortunately it does help, espesially if one THOUGHT you were in correct time and then realising with a beep- beep, you weren't.

The upside of being new is that in this guitar universe,almost everything fills one with wonder...every piece of music takes on a new meaning, and you wonder...Will I get there someday?

Ahahaha! I think you made me laugh til I cried. ☹ Even the most proficient players on this forum are constantly struggling with new challenges. My guitar playing is a constant frustrating battle of making progress only to find that the same goalposts I set for myself seem just as far away as ever from my new standpoint.

I do remember starting. I remember learning Sisters of Mercy's red light with Am, Em and then the frustration of trying to fret Dmaj. And even when I could play all the chords it just didn't sound right...

By that you mean if the timing is out it sounds really awful?

My experience has been that if I play a bad note but keep my timing I usually get away with it. But lose the timing.... there's no escape. EVERYBODY listening to the music will notice it. They may not even understand what they've noticed, but they will notice.

A band with good timing that doesn't have chops will be perceived as "tight". A band with chops but no timing will be perceived as a mess.
