Fender Modern Player Body Wood???

So Fender Released a new gorgeous Modern Player series which seem quite nice, theres a Tele, Thinline, Jaguar and Marauder in the guitar line and then there is a Jaguar, Tele and Jazz bass in the bass line.. They are Made In China which is a little strange but as soon as I see one in the shops ill see how well they are made.

My questions is directed to the Fender Jaguar bass which has a Koto Body and the Telecaster Plus which has a Pine body? Im unfamiliar with these wood types so I would like to hear opinions? I beleive Leo made the first tele's out of Pine but nobody says whether its good or bad...

Usually if something is unpopular its unpopular for a reason but any personal opinions welcome...

Well, they're entry level construction but pretty damn good looking, all of 'em! Would have to pick one up to really get the feel but sometimes a budget line has happy accidents...

Nothing wrong with Pine. The Squier Classic Vibe is made out of Pine, and people rave about them.

As to why there are not more Pine guitars? Dunno!

At the risk of controversy imho body woods don't make that much of a difference in electrics. Weight is an issue for the bass, to light and it's neck heavy, too heavy and it's too much of a pain to gig with. Some of the best bass tone Bill Wyman ever got was on the Ladies and Gentleman tour and the bass was a see through plexi. There's a lot more in the pups, strings and amp than in the body... for me at least.
The overall construction quality will give you an indication of value though. (Sorry, not familiar with Koto wood, this instrument I owned though ? )

if you gonna pay 6 - 8 K .......... think carefully cos if you watch the 2nd hand market you could get a made in usa tele or strat 2nd hand for about that ........... as an example theres a usa tele selling for 6.5K at moment on gumtree i saw it last week ......and i know of a usa strat 2nd hand in a store selling for about 8K maybe even less if you negotiate .......

so what i'm saying is don't get sucked into the advertising hype of a chinese made Fender........... unless it's offering features that you MUST have and are happy with .if you said they were 4K or less i might say cool ..........but at 6- 8 K you could get a usa 2nd hand for that .....

and really i can't imagine a chinese fender to be better quality .......if anything it should fit in below the quality of the MIM (made in mexico ones)
