Gurus please help! Exporting MIDI...

I hope someone can help here...

I've recorded in Cakewalk Sonar LE, I have about 5 audio tracks that I recorded live, and a MIDI drum track that I programmed in the software. Now when I try exporting the project, mixing down to a single track that can be played in a media player, there is no MIDI track, all I hear is the audio tracks...

I can't understand the instructions that they give when i use the "Help" function. Can anyone shed some light on what's happening here?

Try rendering, exporting, mixdown the MIDI drums to a wav file first, (you can then apply audio fx if needed,) THEN try a full mix down.

I haven't used Cakewalk but you should be able to route the midi instruments outputs to an audio channel and just jump the track. But there is no reason why it shouldn't just work from the start.

I don't know LE, but there should be an option in the export window. What synth are you using to playback the sounds? Obviously if you are using an external hardware unit you'll have to route it in the old fashioned way and capture it as audio before you export. Same goes for the default windows softsynth.

Well it wasn't one of the "soft synths" as far as I know. I'm still getting to grips with this software... I programmed it in the piano roll view, I think it was a set called the "Alesis aggressive set."

In the end I plugged the output into the input, and hit record. Crude but effective I guess... I think I need to start out with a different MIDI option right at the start of the project. I'll get there one day ?
