Cheaper alternative to powering effects pedals

Is there an alternative to spending R700+ on a power supply to power your effects pedals without creating negative side effects like hum?
I only have 3 at the moment and I'd rather spend money on more pedals than a supply.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I don't think so. There is also the matter of protection for your pedals. Nothing worse than a cheap supply going up in smoke and taking an entire board's worth of effects with it (I've seen it happen).

Yes. +10 The best thing you can do for your pedalbourd is get proper power. Ive blown 2 (nearly 3) pedals this way.

I use two of these to power my entire board

It is R80 and dead quiet. All you do is remove the little jack and replace it with another wired in the opposite manner, changing the polarity from AC to DC. Takes 15 mins if you work as slow as I do. All you need is a daisy chain to go to each pedal.
Nick on the forum showed me how to do this and enither of us have had any issues.

I bought a generic power supply with 10 independent 100 miliamp inputs and cables for R250. They have them at TOMS and I have had no problems for about 2 years so far.
