I really struggle to find time to play, and in the past I only really found time close to midnight anyway, so 95% of my playing has been through the PC with headphones. Playing through the amp is pretty much reserved for weekends and playing away from home.

When my GF is here I limit myself to the type of stuff that she likes to hear - so no finger exercises, figuring out new songs or metal, just the more radio friendly stuff. Trying to figure out what non-guitarists actually want to hear (without a backing band/track) is actually a pretty good practice exercise in itself! The big rule is that if there's no rhythm, there's no interest. So no lead lines unless there's a backing track (loopers come in handy!). Even then, I'm pretty much limited to about 5 minutes before she gets bored (and therefore I'm being rude if I ignore her any longer).

- do you have contracts in place to manage this conflict?
It's quite a coincidence that you put this thread up when you did - the way the contract is heading now is that I can do whatever I like as long as it's not for more than 5 minutes a day... so yes I'm losing this negotiation. If I say any more now, a moderator will move my post over to a relationship counselling forum...
