There is a talent scout in your city looking at metal acts. He is holding auditions at the premier rehearsal facility/soundstage in the area. The label he represents is a complete package in that they are an independent record company with their own in house, state of the art recording studio. They have their own in house management company, promotion and booking department, Publicity and Development departments…….. and they own their own publishing company. They are looking for new Metal acts for their newly established "All Things Metal" category. They need different acts as well as individual players/musicians to assist less experienced acts, in the recording studio. Session musicians. The purpose of the auditions is to find acts/musicians that will complement their roster. This is the first phase and is an elimination process. Acts auditioning can be as small as a single player/singer showing his or her chops or as large a 5 instrument band …..example: 2 guitars, bass, keyboards/synthesizers and drums/percussion. Vocals are allowed. So in addition to the 5 piece band, there can also be a singer if the instrumentalists do not double as vocalists. Harmonies are allowed. The company is insisting on live performances of a single song, no longer than 2 minutes in length. You must be able to demonstrate the essence of the act in this short time period. What they are looking for is attitude, vibe, cohesion etc. Make it past the first round and it moves into Phase 2 where the band has to demonstrate ability on a higher level. Any style of Metal is welcomed. All acts get the same basic stage setup. The drum riser is large enough to accommodate oversized drum kit and percussion setups so huge double kick drum kits with specialty gongs, ethnic drums and percussion etc are welcomed so long as performed by the drummer himself. Guitar and bass players may bring any amp and pedalboard they normally use. They may also use amp and sound modeling devices. Keyboard players may use multiple tiered keyboard setups and the addition of analog keyboards like Fender Rhodes, Hammond B3 and the ability to sequence and play samples is permitted. A sound engineer will be provided and the front of house system has a complete effects package including reverb, delay, harmonizer, auto tune, chorus etc. Recap: The genre is Metal. Any style. 2 minute performance max. 1-5 instruments plus a dedicated vocalist if necessary Instrumentalists may provide backup vocals/harmonies Synthesizer samples allowed Drumkit and additional percussion allowed Oh shucks - I forgot to deadline this challenge we started late so lets put the deadline at the very last second of 30 November 2011. There will be plenty of time to vote because traditionally we don't run challenges in December.

I remember advising 7thson to listen to some Scottish folk music. Those old ballads typically have a murder, often of a child or parent, about every 2nd verse.

Good news for me, a friend has given me a place to set up my pc and guitar for the next 2 weeks while work continues on my roof. I might be able to refine my track coz I only had Saturday to do everything, and while I'm still happy with it, I think I can do a little more with it. ?

I'm going over my track today, been listening to it all week and I think I've found where its lacking. I'm very excited to see what everyone has come up with for this challenge. ?

I am nowhere near even starting. Between being in the thick of a bathroom remodel and shooting my AR-15......I'm getting nothing else done. I bought some metal MIDI drum files, bought an EZ Drummer Metal program and have been listening to my John Tempesta tracks I have in Drumcore......but that's it. So far nothing has grabbed me.

I am likely going to miss this as there are only about 9-10 days left and I have a rough schedule.

No stress.. I was suffering from the same problem. But then, exams finished, inspiration struck and I wrote and recorded my piece from start to finish in a single morning.

I think you just don't want to have to think up another challenge so you're making excuses ? jokes! Hope you find the time.

Phfew, it started to look like I wasn't going to be able to get one in for this challenge either as this is just such a hectic month for me but last night I managed to slap something together. I'd really really like to add vocals but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to borrow a mic before the entries close. At least the main recording is done.

Hammeron and Seventh, you'd better watch out! I have every intention of finishing second in this challenge (and that's only because Stu is going to win) ?

By the way, Hammeron, I'm gonna find myself there in your neck of the woods again this weekend. I hope you've been good and arranged for good weather tomorrow? We're kicking off our Birding Big Day effort in and around Polokwane. One of the reasons November is always such a hectic month for me.

I've done mine... Neil Young mixed with cobain and ... something else... might be a butterfly. You know... you youngens are gonna have to give us old people a break on this comp. We just don't have your stamina or fresh perspective... sigh
