My first symphonic song!!!!

The songs name is "The Violin and the Blacksmith"(for no reason, just flew to my mind)

Anyway, i did the entire song in Reason, and a little bit of mastering in cubase.
Since this is my first symphonic song, i still have to learn a lot, so please tell me if it sounds OK or not.

I tried panning it like a real orchestra, but the mix sounded empty, so i just panned it my way.

I think it's been programmed fairly well, the only thing that I would change is probably add a decent (but big) room verb to the entire orchestra track or group bus.
I know it goes without saying but the room size should sound like an Orchestra can actually fit in it hehe.

The snare sounded a tad bit dead but maybe if the orchestra sounds bigger it shouldn't even be a problem.
Try not to be too shy with the verb too. I'd suggest using SepticFlesh's symphony's as reference (The song Persepolis has some pretty good examples.

That should liven them up a bit and make it sound much more bigger! ?

Damn i totally forgot about it!!, i useally add a reverb to my symphonic stuff

Is the stuff from "septic flesh" also programmed?

Sound real tight, how do they perform it live? with a backtrack?

Yeah I think it is programmed because under the member Christos Antoniou it says "Guitars and Orchestral"

They might have gotten an orchestra for the album but I can't be too sure.

Live they have backing tracks that the drummer follows along to with the click track in his ears and the rest of the band follows him.
My new band will be doing this as we have a few orchestral instruments, Choirs and flutes apart from keys and synth our keyboardist plays (otherwise he'd do it). On top of that, getting orchestral session members is expensive!

It's just requires extra gear and is a mission to hookup if you don't plan your stage setup time perfectly.
Also you'd have to have the backing track in Mono as you don't want the left side audience not hearing whats going on the right side of the FOH and vice versa.

Nah something completely new, The Horror Cast is just up front Overdrive all the time.
Although there'll be more news on that.
