I cant remember if there was a thread like this but i was thinking about dings, scratches, bruises, cuts and other tragedy's that has happened to my guitars over the years! The stuff that when u think about it your stomach turns and u cry or get stupidly angry over what has happened! So here is mine......
About four years ago i was playing in this metal band that i was at first only helping out, but ended up playing with them anyway! So on this sunny saturday we played this place in Alberton, i think, and we were booked for a gig right after that in PTA! So after we finished in JHB we just packed straight up got in the car and drove to the next one!
When we got to the next place we started unloading, and i always take my stuff out last. So finally after helping everyone else the vocalist and i started taking out my guitars ..... i still remember telling him to be carefull because my gigbag was still unzipped at the bottom of my BC rich NJ Classic Bich................... then all of a sudden i heard a big gong sound........like say when u drop a heavy piece of wood falling on asphault .......... and all i could think was ffffffffff.........its over!
So there was a little crack in the neck on the fretboard and the edges at the bottom are now completely flat! .........I still hear that sound in my dreams!
So whats that type of experience anyone else hear had? (man up)

long long ago when my Les Paul was still relatively ungigged,,,we always had a 'rent-a-crowd' at our practises,,,,and one day after practise I put it back in the case and just closed the lid (without latching it >☹ ).... as I was packing up my pedals etc. my mates girlfriend for some reason decided to pick up the case and all I heard was 'clunk',,,,,, like a dinosaur bone hitting the floor,,,,
miraculously there was very little damage, just a slight bruise on the body,,,,,,,,
but ja,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
moral of the story,,,,if you have a hard case,,,use the latches,,,,

This didn't happen to a guitar or to an instrument of mine, but here goes...
I was starting a new job at a new school teaching violin and with moving to a different city and everything else going on, it was a time in my life when I had a lot of things on my mind. Everyday had a list of things to get through and I had to plan a lot.
Anyway, I met my new students, measured them for the right instrument size (violins come in half, quarter, eight etc. sizes) and I had undertaken to buy instruments for three new studenst whose parents payed for them on my next trip to the big city.
Having done this I was heading back early the next morning (before sunrise) with the violins to where my school was for the day's work. I made a couple of trips between the flat I still rented in the city and my car. My car's headlights were pointed directly at another flat's bedroom window and I decided not to switch them on until I've reversed out of the driveway so as not to waken the sleeping dweller at that particular number. It was a fresh morning in early January and I felt exhilerated at evrything I got done and how smooth things went at this crazily busy time in my life. I got some music on my MP-3 player to listen to for the trip (my car had a battery replaced and the radio still needed a code from the dealer to be functioning again). So in total darkness and somewhat deafened by the earphones I got on my way. Next to my car was a tree with a brick-high wall built around it. I backed out in a straight line as this was how I parked the previous night and I can remember thinking it strange that I caught this curb as I felt a slight bump in the process of getting my car out.
A couple hours later and after a few lessons it striked me I never got the violins out of my cars boot. Then I felt a cold hand grip my heart as the thought crossed my mind that I couldn't recall loading them in although I definately carried them down to my car.
When I got to the car my worst fear was confirmed. The last thing I remembered was placing the violins directly behind the car while I put some other stuff on the back seat. I then recalled that I imagined hearing a crunching sound like a bunch of twigs getting snapped when I thought I drove against the little wall around the tree next to my car.
I ended paying for these violins out of my pocket before I had even earned my first month's salary. They weren't even good for spare parts.

I went looking for a set of Schaller strap locks today and couldn't find a set in silver, so I ended up buying a set on Hennessy strap locks for about a third of the price of the Schallers.
I've never heard of them before, but they seem to be very good quality. They work with spring loaded ball bearings. I've not fitted them yet, but they look like they're going to do the job perfectly.
