I like nokia's, recently got an E7! i love it, its awesome!

Something no one has asked yet, it, do you need a keyboard? qwerty or only touch screen??
Thats an important consideration!

I for one, HATE typing on a touch screen, even though my E7 supports it!
I prefer keys, and wont ever get a phone without qwerty!
My previous nokia e75 also had a slide out qwerty and i loved it!

most important. i don't think i could ever go back to keys now that i've got so used to touch screen. it's a very personal thing this whole phone issue. can't believe how reliant i've become on mine. if i realise i've left mine at home, i'll turn around and go fetch it.

maybe spend some time 'playing' with friends' phones before making such a long-term decision?

Dudes.................3310 nokia (it never freakin breaks and u can go to the desert for a month and the battery will still be good)

I've had an HTC sensation for about 2 months, and all I have to say is wow. Never had an all touch phone before and was a little anxious about the typing and all of that, but this things on screen keyboard is big enough for my fingers so it's great for me. It doesnt blink no matter how many apps you are running (has a 1.2GHZ processor with 784MB of RAM). OK , on benchmarks it's a little slower than the Galaxy S 2, but the user interface (in my opinion) of the HTC is better.

There are some cons though...

-Battery life is not as good as my ol Nokia e71, I have to charge this every day to day and a half (I use my phone all day long with calls, browsing, email, whatsapp, twitter etc)
-This thing chows data, but luckily I have it synced with my Wifi (which it swaps to automatically when I get home) so updates and big attachments I wait to do when I get home.

I love it though, couldn't go back to anything else. The free apps are mind-boggling.

I'm an HTC fanboy as well, the Samsung Galaxy is AMAZING but I guess that's too big for you - if it is, then isn't the iPhone too large as well?

Apple's no.1 priority is always user experience and they are damn good at it.

This is just good Apple Marketing. It's not even the world's biggest smartphone seller anymore!
The top range Samsungs with Android are pretty much up there with Apple, if not a bit smarter ?
Google shootouts between the iphone and similar devices, you will be quite surprised at the results ?

Always funny responses when you mention Apple technology. ?

The iPhone has very solid support and is a well designed and built piece of hardware. I don't think you can go wrong with it.

On the other hand, there are indeed many other alternatives. I'm a big fan of the Samsung Galaxy, although I'm not 100% sold on Android's software support over time.

At the moment I'm a BlackBerry user, and I think it does ok consider I'm on the entry level package. It does what I need and I save a fair whack on text message communication, which is why I bought it.

While their particular brand of hyperbolic marketing sits well with the average design-school iconoclast, it's repulsive to plenty of other users: particularly technical users, who can see through all the bullshit hype and also don't appreciate the condescending tone of the Apple-created "Mac VS PC" mindset.

I think they annoy just as many people as they attract, and that's a pity, because they build some awesome kit.

On the other hand, the Mac store layouts are great, and the different models are always on display and usable by prospective buyers. I find the aesthetic of the stores a bit sterile, but that seems to be all the rage with tech stores these days.

Agreed there is nothing wrong with Apple or the iPhone, but statements declaring that it's the best and more advanced than any other phone are far from the truth.

Blackberry is a whole bunch better than their reputation, but the free texting is a reality for all devices with Apps like Whatsapp and Apple's iMessage, the one good thing about BB is BIS, R50 for unlimited Browsing, my latest bill declares I used 600MB of data, so the saving is real!

Agreed, see my rant about Apple marketing and Apple "Evangelists" (actually almost any kind of evangelist annoys me, but that's another story ?).

Yeah I realise I can do free text etc. with 3rd party apps on other platforms, but I actually like the simplicity of the built-in BBM offering. I've had more than enough fiddling with devices (from computers to phones to guitars to girls) to get them to do what I want, so the less hassle the better. ?

I don't surf much with my hand-held because the Curve package is rubbish for that. I'd definitely use it if I was on a faster device.

Not even close! iPhone is still the leading unit out there, and no statistic would change that.

I own and use and iPhone 4 and a Samsung Galaxy, and trust me, Android is still a while behind.
Just because you can change the look of the phone, apps etc does not mean the phone is better or smarter.
Even the so called ''dual core'' on the S2 means nothing as Android OS still cannot utilize both cores, but only one.

There are problems on all platforms, sure, I am now on my third iPhone 4, as warranty allows me to get a new one if
the unit in my hand is faulty.
this one however is looking better than the other two.

My Galaxy also had to be sent in to be factory reset as it also stopped working after a while.

APPS-

The apps on the android are just plain shocking to say the least.
sure, there are good ones here and there but thats it.

The app store on the other hand is like wonderland. and thats where ill stop re that.

As phones go, Nokia used to lead, but has dropped to the (almost) bottom.
nonetheless, their phones are still solid, reliable and do the job.

BB - my personal opinion is I rather stick a knife in my eye.

Android - OS 4 seems to promise a bit more than the older ones, i suggest taking a good look at
the newer phone coming out in 2012.
for the un-bias, it is still an iPhone wannabe and of course an iPhone lesser copy.

iPhone, not cheap, and definitely a phone that is hard to get when its first out.
it is by far the better PHONE to use as in to make calls.
the apps are the best and the most u will ever be able to find.
most of all, so easy to use and it is the only
smart phone out there you do not need to mess around with until it works good or better.

until recently you HAD to own a PC or MAC in order to activate.
from now on (iSO5) it is computer free.

one can talk forever about the pros or cons...

I have a blackberry torch and its pperfect for what i need, although the apps are only half of apple etc, the internet service is what sold it to me, Mine is pretty strong, much stronger than an i phone, its dropped out of ceilings 6 times(i am counting) and its still fine, couple of chips here and there but still workong perfectly. I was considering the iphone 4 but the packages that it comes on contracts were pathetic at the time, so i took the blackberry. i played around on the HTC this weekend and it looks pretty cool as well.
