The Idea just jumped up in my head.
Why don’t we make a mixed album with pieces of all the forum members?
It’s not like we don’t have the recourses to do it..
What do you guys think?
Squonk
sounds good
What would you do, individual pieces or collaborations?
CornFlakes
I think individual pieces would be cool. Collaborations might get a bit chaotic..

Sounds like a great idea... I can see it already: GFSA Volume X, like the "Now" series of compilations, but with better album artwork...like the old Springbok records ??
At Christmas, we release a Best of GFSA... 8)... The shopping malls will be much more tolerable with GFSA riffs instead of Boney M... 8)

BONEY M.... HMMMMMMM
OR WE CAN DO A BONEY M SHREDDER'S RE-EDDITION ....
Imagine the little drummer boy(pa-ra-pa-pa-pum) with crazy diminished arpegio sweeps ?

I like this idea, it would be awesome to ahve a chance to showcase our members and their talent ? plus it would be cool to be able to actually hear some of the guys on this forum ?

Those old springbok album covers where the shit. They have a few of them on the wall at Mystic Boer in Stellenbosch..

Norio and I have spoken about this before and it's something we will be doing before too much longer. The only thing is I want to do it properly...
The idea will be to get enough pre-ordered to make it viable for a small production run - I know many of us would want multiple copies for our own reasons too. With a bigger production run, the unit cost comes down and we can then keep a few aside for future sales as well as a few as promotional copies to send to radio stations and newspapers to promote both the forum and our members. It would also be nice to get the compilation mastered for a more pro sounding result. We can then even market it around and try and get a distribution deal with someone who can also help promote it (SABC???).
This could also obviously tie in to the other idea we had of putting together a concert sometime ?
I'm not going to call for submissions yet, but what I would do is ask anyone with any expanded ideas, contacts, or planning/organisational/promotional skills they are willing to donate to the cause to come forward now. We'll get the content a little later in the process...

Most of us belong to bands here and have albums out already so getting tracks down wont be a problem. But then on the other side It would also be cool if some of us can get together and come up with a song dedicated to the “GFSA CD”. This would also be a good marketing strategy for bands and GFSA.
This other thing is there are few guys here who own Recording Studio’s so it would be a “you scratch my back and I will scratch yours” situation.
GFSA is going to hit the music industry with a BANG!

My cousin started Legend Music .... worked with the likes of jo day , toxic shame , scrubber ...... this sounds like something he'll be interested in ...

I think it will work, but only with careful planning.
We can nominate 18 or so members to submit their best song, and viola..........
Norio knows alot about the internet, so he can market it for free.
Then again this will take a long time, so be patient and write some awesome songs.

No, make it completely open and call for submissions from all members. Choose the content based on votes (will need a more advanced voting system than usual though).

It can be if they are signed. If it gets to the point where we need to deal with record companies for permissions, it's going to be a nightmare. Rather get tracks that are completely free and outside any contractual obligations...
Heath
what about doing like a band aide track , and get all the newer guitar players and those not in bands ... as a sort of fun track , where everyone gets heard and get there name mentioned on cover .......

+1 Alan . Everyone should be able to submit and make it open to a vote. How do you choose 18 members?
But not everyone has acsess to proper recording vacillities. Maybe whe could submit demo's and then if they are chosen they could be rerecorded for the album ?

Sorry, i just gave a suggestion like alan asked ?
But not everyone has acsess to proper recording vacillities
I know of a few people on this forum that has recording facalities, just ask them if they can help out!!!
I'm sure they'll help out with a demo song.
Wessel
All good but what I meant to say is that the demo's whould probaply not be the tracks going on the CD. They would probaply have to be rerecorded and masterd for the Album.

I would like to offer my studio as a recording/mixing facility in the CT area. I'd suggest sending it to a high quality "Mastering studio" to get mastered.
I can do it no problem but I'll assure you a designated mastering studio will do a better job.
...that is if everyone is keen on the idea of course.
If you need pictures of the studio I'll have to get them from my photographer's. (Yes I'm an idiot and have two :-[)
I just need to know the plan before hand as I'm getting pretty busy now that the end of the year approaches.

it's gonna be like roadrunner united all star sessions ?
