On the contrary - it takes a good working knowledge of a guitars fretboard to operate this or a Z-tar. The Z-tar is a well regarded MIDI controller (that a guitarist can use easily, but without the latency of pitch conversion used in most other MIDIguitar systems - it's a MIDI keyboard for guitarists) and the iPad is fast being accepted as a serious musical controller.

As for the iPad - more and more serious music software is being ported to or created for it. The iPad is just a touch interface OS on a computer, and there are no limitations on input devices as they are virtual rather than hardware - which means that creative programmers can do anything with it with no limitations other than their imagination. It can be used as a softsynth host, it can be a controller for a synth, a drum machine or a DAW.

This does look cool, but only if it helps with strumming, picking, timing and not JUST playing your favorite songs, would be nice if it helps teach scales etc and those type things.

I'm all for technology helping to make life a little easier but hell things like these are so bloody stupid!!

People need to seriously wake up. Someone here already mentioned that the music industry needs to shift it's focus back to real muzos and not the knob-tweaking "artists" we see today.

Hell, in a way I feel so sorry for the current generation of young kids 'cos they will never hear a fresh new band like Dire Straits, Queen, Van Halen, Metallica, the Stones or similar ever again. By band I mean people that play real instruments, that play music good enough to change your life, and that you will cherish forever. This description by default eliminates almost every band post-'95. No, here's some Bieber or Lady(boy) Gaga for you. Yes, that's REAL music kids made by producers in a studio! Also remember, music played on "real" instruments is from the devil. Now hop along and vote for war...

Whenever some kid/friend comes to me with some new music I always put this out there: "Do you see these guys still around in 45 years? Lets make it 30? Hell, 15? No? Well, then consider that this, is probably crap!"
Music is supposedly art, and art, from what I understand, needs to affect the one perceiving it. It needs to have an effect. If it does not, it's not art. By that measure then, crap like Gaga may be art as it affects me to switch off the radio. ?

Recently a friend of my wife's from "die platteland" came to visit us. My house is littered with heavy metal and rock paraphernalia and cd's. Loads of them I've collected for over a decade.
And for the life of it she just could not understand how my wife and I listen to Megadeth, Metallica, REM, GnR, In Flames, Paradise Lost etc and we do not own a single Gaga or Bieber or Kurt Darren (WTF?!?!?!?!) album. She just could not understand that people DONT listen to that crap!! No amount of telling her that gaga/bieber/darren/howling poochie rap starzz was not music, the less she knew of it. After about 5 minutes I told my wife to cut it out as she was clearly not following, and showingly overwhelmed that there's music out there no-one apparently listened to or hear on the radio, but we do.

For a long time I was also an avid listener of Radio Tuks. The last standing bastion of rock radio in south africa. But their bubblegum-rock playlists got so sour and repetitive that I abandoned them for good. Hell, if I had to endure My Chemical Romance one more tiiiiiiiime................ Nowadays, I listen to Talk 702...which plays almost no music...When I listen to music I want to enjoy it, so, I listen to the music I enjoy now exclusively.

I also think that the demise of proper music being successful is what I call "audio wallpaper". Music for the sake of sound. It's like buying a car for the sake of movement without purpose. It quickly loses it's appeal and something different is required. Hence, the here-today, gone-tomorrow "artists" we see today.

music like everything else really is on an evolutionary path ,,, electric guitars were unheard of 100 years ago , unimagined too and look at us today .....in a 100 years from now gasp horror the guitar as we know it may be consigend to the scrapheap of history as many instruments have been up to now..its just "progress" i guess. Music will progress and instruments will progress..... and tastes will change and life will carry on.

Ipad already features in one of the floor pedal boards , i think the HD500 or something like that and i saw a pedal which comes as a blank and u load it to be whatever pedal you want it to be via your ipad/phone so one day ti can be a distortion , the next a delay....

musical genius resides in the mind , not in the ability of the fingers imho ..but then i have to say that cos my fngers suck ..... but ones things for sure , music making is no longer the realms of the gods , everyone these days has access to make music of some kind and thats awesome

the odd good rock band sneaks in once in a while but gets drowned by the noise,,,,,,,,
not sure if you've listened to Mix FM 93.8?? mostly in the evenings, and especially on Friday evenings where they play some of the best rock/blues etc.?

It's all instant gratification, rather than something substantial and meaningful. As Ziggy Marley say about the bubblegum music that's played everywhere "too many sweets will rot ya teeth"

I am actually quite intrigued by people's (meaning us humans) ability to come up with new ideas all the time. I really am. If it was up to me we would still be living in caves and waiting for lightning to start our braais, so the creativity of some folks astound me.
One thing that strikes me is that stupid ideas sometimes inspire people to come up with great ones. Da Vinci shetched a wooden submarine way back in yonks. I bet that made a lot of folks back then go WTF, how stoopuhd can you get....diving in a barrel, pfft.
Today we have nuclear subs with the ability to destroy countries and research subs exploring the deepest reaches of our oceans. Granted, not all stupid ideas will lead to something great but some of them do.
As for the music.... Symbol, I have no idea when my missus went to visit you, but it sure as hell sounds like her ?
