Fender Hot Rod VS Fender Supersonic

Arrghh.. I'm sorry for keeping on bothering you guys over these amps and such, but buying an amp is a big decision and not something you do everyday ?

I live in Welkom, so a Music Connection is quite a drive from me to compare A to B.
I'm currently torn between a Fender Supersonic used for R9k and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe new.

Except for the obvious wattage and weight differences, is it a good idea to go for the Supersonic? It's obviously a higher end amp and the deal seems pretty good for a studio used amp. But I'm still not sure if it's going to be the right choice..?

edit: Want to add that the Supersonic is 4 years old with a retube.

I'm not sure.

4 Years is kind of old, I'm afraid of the reliability of the Supersonic, the seller states it was only used in studio but I'm afraid of the amp bailing on me..
A NEW fender hot rod sounds so much better? Is it worth it?

No it's not.

There's a reason why vintage amplifiers sell for quite a lot.

Do you expect your R10k investment on a tube amp to only last you 4 years?

Tubes have been around for many, MANY years. They're pretty damn reliable if you perform regular maintenance. I bought an untouched Twin Reverb that was 35 years old, never been serviced, only had tubes changed, and it sounded pretty damn good.

Just imagine if you'd owned an amp for 4 years. Would you be dissatisfied with it? You're lucky actually, cause the speaker will be worn in already, so it'll sound even better.

Supersonic is more of a Fender than a Hot Rod imho...

lol.. No I completely understand your point made. But I was under the impression that the amps that were made back then were of higher quality materials etc. than the amps made today.

Take the Super-Sonic, it's the better amp of the two - read the web reviews, or if you are still undecided, then make the trip to the shop to do the test play. I assume it's the S/S 60 and not the 22 (because of the age). If you are still swayed by the HRD idea, then it must be a HRD III and not a II model.

Or, if this is the sound you want, another consideration is a good deal going on the Forum currently where Henker is selling a Rivera for R8,5k, used. One of the best boutique amps in this sound category.

I picked up the Super Sonic on Friday.

It's an absolute beauty, I didn't expect it to be in such good condition, you wouldn't be able to tell she has been used.

I take it, it is the 60W Super Sonic and not the 22W or 100W model ?

If it is the 60watter, i would deff go with that one, over the Hot Rod.

the 22W is certainly going to be loud enough for small to medium size venues as well as band practice, but don't just trust me, test her out ?

I have to add that mine (60w) is too loud for bedroom practice (obviously), so a 22w will be a better bet in that case.

I have tried the 22W out, I love the versatility and bluesy sound you can get out of it. I really don't need anything bigger so I'm going to try her out again! ?
