cool link!
ok. so there'll be huge debate on this one, as many opinions as there are members. for me, though, we're not looking at whether these measure up against the original track (obviously), but where they stack up against one another.
- • srv & voodoo chlie - no freakin question. i've loved that track since the first time i heard it and it's awesome live like that.
• the cure & purple haze - not my cup of tea. i get the interpretation. i like the track, but it ain't hendrix, it's the cure. 9 points for the cure, 0 for hendrix. so 10/20 on average.
• jeff beck and seal & manic depression - that's nice.
• rhcp & fire - nekkid, raw, unpolished. awesome.
• srv & little wing - goes without saying i'm gonna like it. but this is simply inspirational. i might have put it higher... stuff that. i would have put it at the top!
• devo & are you experienced - are you kidding me? some stuff should really not be attempted. case in point - the defrosted jimi solo. wtf?
• the pretenders & room full of mirrors - chrissie hind in leather pants. i'm sold. the guitar work isn't particularly horrible, but the video is 80s shite.
• derek et al & little wing - just goes to show how much different folks can bring to one song. me likey.
• emmylou harris & may this be love - how much of this is danny lanois? with one ear closed, i thought i was listening to the joshua tree. i s'pose that's irrelevant. it's a good track, but i'm tempted to imagine there must be hundreds of others out there better than this?
• living colour & crosstown traffic - lekka. real funk - even on youtube you can feel that bass POUND! and the guitar is great. if the proof of the pudding is in the eating, i'd rate this above the emmylou harris track any day and twice on sundays.
ok. argue away!
