you can get a wax spray from builders warehouse. it is usually in the auto section near q20 and greases. herches PW I think, but don't go by that name... it leaves a waxy covering on metal that protects against even sea water

I have a tin of the stuff at work. will get the name on Monday

It almost looked like you sprayed on a thin mixture of honey and wax. The honey making it sticky and the combination of that and the wax making it waterproof/airproof/corrosion resistant.

It was actually nasty stuff. Not something you'd put on unless you had an extreme situation where something sitting idle for a long time needed to be protected from the destructive power of sea air.

If you touched it it would transfer to your hand, sticky stuff....you'd need a degreaser to get it off.

Man, looking at it that Tectyl Amber looks very similar but I don't recognize that name.

I imagine this product either went off the market somewhere in the 80's or it was bought by Valvoline.

The one I am thinking about was on all the shelves in auto parts type supplies..it was easy to get and everyone used it for rust stopping. It had such a recognizable name. I seem to think it had a name like WD-40 or Q20..... Letters and a number. Damn...this is bugging me.... ?

I spoke to someone about this today and he remembers the product Duraback. My memory says Tectyl and I lived in East London in those days and guys used it a lot for rust protection on cars/bakkies.

I've heard it mostily pronounced as Tek-Tile.

Did you click the link I posted higher up? Tectyl is a whole product line and each specific product as the letters/numbers name you described higher up. The product you're thinking of is bound to be one of them.

Of course, the packaging will have changed over the last 30 odd years so I do not recognize the can labels etc.
