The guy from the studio saying R1800 a day... does he record straight 2 track to a CD recorder? Thats dirt cheap!!!

mmm... Well I know of a band (very good) who spent more than R50 000 on their album. Financed out of their own pockets, and only now are they getting some airtime!!!

Its all the fault of those R&B guys (Kwaito, hiphop, etc.) ?

So True..

I believe if you have a dream “ stop dreaming and make it happen” live it. Music is like any business, and to make it work you really need to put effort, money and hard work into it “ you have to spend money to make money”. I know loads of bands complaining that they aren’t making enough money blabla. But when you see them at the gig’s then they are always spending most of there money on boos and shit “there is noting wrong with drinking don’t get me wrong” rather than saving up that money for recordings, marketing and stuff.

I charge R 1000 a day and still get complaints it's too much.

Even though I understand that bands don't really get that much money, bands don't understand the average cost of a studio session.

There's a studio in UK that charges 7-8 pounds per second...

I charge R500 for a basic demo song(with programmed drums), and that is basically for free.
So most of the time i just do it for free, to gain experience.

Well the future of SA would be that at least one of the band members will have some Sound Engineering experience, and that band do all the recording and mixing themself.

Well that is what is happening in cape town at the moment, and i heard some really great material coming from home/project studios.

Somebody once said, think it was my Dad [And 6000 other people ?] It's not about the equipment, it's about the player!!! Have a look at Seasick Steve, he plays a guitar with only 3 strings like a master!

I understand that nowadays everything's expensive and recording can especially be a bitch. I am going to have to experience that for myself!

What about a home studio, think it's worth it.......I mean at 50g's you can rig a studio!
