Studio build Part I

Skywalker

So Flatfourfan "inspired" me to finally pull finger and start off the thread that I've been meaning to get started for ages.

Thanks dude 8)

As some of you may know, I run a rehearsal studio here in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. I started it up a good few years ago so I had a place to jam with my mates and it's grown into a full on rehearsal spot over the years.

It's time I shared with you all the progress from the start ?

Part I shows pics of how it was initially set up.

Positive, negative and any feedback or questions etc are obviously welcome ?

Stay tuned for Part II to follow soon

Enjoy 8)

Apologies upfront for some of the pics being a bit blury or not so great :-[

First room that was built

"Main" area converted into a 2 tier stage setup for "Room #2"

Can't leave out a pic of the bar now can we? ?

flatfourfan

hehehhee, awesome. Any more indepth info on walls, treatment? layers, fill, stuffing, bass traps etc?

What do you do for ventilation in there?

Gearhead

I see the bar only serves cough syrup ?

Skywalker

Ventilation? What's that? Hahah ?

All the rooms have aircon and the guys take regular "fresh air" breaks :?

Construction is a basic room within a room setup. As little as possible gaps and openings, sealed solid doors etc. I used Auralex's acoustics 101 and a ton of other online research as a guidline.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to try different approaches and break down and re-do if need be, but it seems to be doing the job for now. We're also situated in a semi-industrial area so a bit of bleed between rooms and through the front door isn't really an issue. It's not too bad though when the room doors are closed.

I'll fill you in with the next part which has pics of drywall construction, insulation and treatment etc.

Stay tuned 8)

@ Gearhead.... That's right...but there are cold "beverages" under the counter to wash it down with aswell ?
