If you're looking at shelling out over 20k, I'd say go spend a day in the expensive room of Music Connection. A mate of mine flew me up to Joburg to assist him in choosing an amp, so we literally spent the day testing out about 15 amps. Luckily, I'd given Dan Patlansky a ring and asked him to join us, so we got some good service. My friend ended up getting an AC30HWx, an amp he really didn't expect he'd like. So go and spend a day with someone who knows what you want, and sift through the endless options ?

I'd love to test the Kemper. From what I've seen on the interwebs is they'll be cheaper than the Mesa and the Axe FX II.
Any idea when they'll arive?

Mr Tokai would be able to give you a solid date, but I'd guess around Xmas perhaps or early new year?

My "demo" KPA arrives tomorrow.

World wide release scheduled for end October...we'll have them here before the USA gets them and a week after the release. ?

P.S. You should be running your SV at minimum 1/4 volume (preferably higher) to get decent tones after re-eq'ing... They don't sound good at lower volumes. You need to push those tubes as much as possible. (I've had 3 SV's...)

Dude. You have a 2x12 Spider Valve. You should be able to get some killer sounds out of that :-\

Try Blackstar. Seriously good amps for the money. the ISF feature is worth the money alone, it allows you to shape your tone from classic British tones (think Marshall) to modern USA (think Boogie) and everything inbetween.

My advice is to drop the modelling kit. I have a gt8 which I used with a crate amp and I could never get tone I really liked. Now I've starred over with a simple hughes and kettner 25th anniversary tube and decent pedals.

What I've found is that instead of trying to model a bands sound I've got my own voice in which to play the songs I've always loved.

Hey bud, so u not digging the spider?
A pity, i have been interested in getting a spider valve purely for high gain studio tones? Have u been dissapointed with the distortion sounds on the beast?

Would like to hear your feedback!

My 2c, just get a dual rec, i got one to replace my mesa express 5:50 head and it does all those tones perfectly! Really amazing amp.
If you don't need MASSES of head room, go for the express 5:50 head with a 2x12 cab. There is only one in the country, my old one, which is still at music connection (got a bit of wear at the store but just cosmetic last I checked).
To be honest its quicker and easier to dial in huge lead tones from that head than a dual rec and it should be reasonably affordable.

That said, Mesa is awesome.

Man ... this is a strange journey. I tested the Express 5:25, Dual Rec and the Spider Valve 112 on the same day - unfortunately not at volumes approaching band usage volumes. For what I could hear then, the high gain sounds was good enough and the other sounds I considered as extra and bonus.

I didn't buy the 112, but went for the 212 when I saw they had one. (Bigger is better ... right? ?). Before I've ever used the amp in a gig situation, my band ceased to exist, so the amp has been sitting around for 2-3 years.

I can't explain what my problem with it is at this stage - hell , it might be my guitar, it might be my playing ... can anyone point me to a good psychiatrist ? ☹
