My thread on one of my recent set-ups and repairs got me thinking.
How badly damaged will your guitar have to be before you give up on it?
This applies to mods and upgrades as well. How expensive or severe will it have to be before you thing "Stuff it, I'm just going to buy a new guitar instead"
Take any one of your guitars and think if it was damaged. Think if you were to do a big'ish mod.
I didn't see the point in doing expensive mods on my Squier, it's monetary value and quality made it feel like i was throwing good money after bad. "Why spend R2000 when i could just put that towards a new guitar?"
I'm sure this is more prevalent with the owners of cheaper guitars rather than those that own their dream Tele's etc.
I also don't doubt that related to this decision is the history and emotional attachment to a guitar, maybe even it's feel.

I don't buy a guitar unless it "speaks" to me... So don't think I'll very give up on any of mine!!

sentimantal value aside...when anything starts to cost you money that isnt warranted its time to move on..
I dont have either of my first guitars anymore...neither do you spyke..but i reckon with something like the sunny its not worth the effort unless he's prepared to cough up and you use it as a learning experience..

I think I'd still have my Academy if it wasn't stolen, for that sentimental value I guess.
But I hear you with spending unwarranted money - I have a car like that. >☹
But does sentimental value warrant spending lets say, R3000plus on a R5000 guitar because the neck split or something like that?

I wish I had kept all my guitars. Hold on to it Spyke
You should see all the shirts I have in my cupboard that my wife wants to toss out. Sentimental!

No...3k on a 5k guitar just because you have an emotional attachment to it....pfft..
Put it in a case and keep it as is..buy a new one ?

I don't know being a musican is anyway throwing a away money.... ?
I get a new neck... Mayby something in a more reasonble price range... But for me the joy of a old friend back at the jam is worth far more then money can ever be....
