totally different feels............. as the Hofner is a thin body and smaller so feels lighter and easier to hold.......... as i said very easy to play .

where the Aria is a ES 175 copy so has a more archtop/acoustic feel cos its wider and bigger

tonally both offer almost a very similar traditional vintage jazz guitar tone.......... so they both compete evenly on the sound ........and offer instant " vintage jazz tone"

it's more a feel thing and size of the body and NOT a tone thing

i would say if the price is alright why not....(but i would not pay more then 3.5K for this guitar)

but again, dont even talk to me about gassing on vintage gear... ?

yeah the price is good......... and i have seen this model on ebay for 670 euro maybe a bit unrealistic cos in fact just this week on gumtree i saw a usa tele selling 2nd hand for 2K more than i paid for mine new.so ebay and gumtree are never anything but broad guides to value

and listing price and selling price are two different things

especially in SA it is a buyers market, since there are not a lot of people interested in buying guitars and especially not vintage gear

i saw a year ago a archtop hofner, mid sixties, asking price was 6k, which is reasonable, but a year later guitar still there and asking price was now already 4K (which is a great price, but since i am saving for something big, let it pass ?)

You can Ummmmm and Rrrrrrrrrrr, and Yada Yada Yada, but the truth is how do you feel and how does she sound when you play her. If you like her get her for the best price you can.

Questions:
1. Could you make a trade with your 68 Aria ES175 copy? (if you still got it)
2. As a jazz musician, I would think you would want at least one hollow body in your arsenal?

answer 1. no i won't trade the Aria as i would lose out trading it in to a music store...... but it's still on the market .

answer 2. as far as my jazz goes i'm doing great with my tele ....... cos i'm not after that traditional sound ala the aria and hofner ....... but a more experimental jazz sound........ that the tele delivers ..... my next jazz band i put together would preferably have a pedal steel player in it too........ ? i'm getting into playing jazz with a slight country twang ....... check out the video below of "jim campilongo and the ten gallon cats"....... love that name for a band btw but he uses pedal steel and double bass and a tele and they sound awesome ....putting the country back into jazz

so basically for me i'd like to have a hollow body but like i said in the initial post i don;t need this guitar i was just wanting it .........

however what i really should do is use the tele for the electric jazz....... and get a vintage steel string 00 size acoustic ala the guitar the blues players in the 30's and 40's played on and use that for the more traditional jazz rather than a hollow body .even mount a floating pup on the end of the neck for a more jazz tone .....

? great clip.........i did watch it . BUT think you misunderstood me......... i don't want to play country music .. ? much as i do like the brad paisleys of the world ......my goal is to just use some country influence say a pedal steel in jazz and a tele (but a few jazz players play tele's in jazz cos they have a very warm neck pup sound ) but still like jim campilongo does i want to play jazz standards and still keep a jazz sound and feel but just decorated with a bit of twang ..but NOT going anywhere near turning a jazz standard into a 2 step country jig like in the video ,,,,,,,,,,, it must still swing and be recognisable as jazz

But back to your dilemma, hold out for the 00 acoustic rather, Have you one in particular in mind?

Ok so a week ago i passed on this . Very brave , but today i found myself back in the store playing it for 30 min and wondering why i passed on it and to justify it i said well it's only a few grand i'll not even feel it , why am i resisting . So i didn't i just bought it . And it's not perfect but then no guitar is but a further persuasion was before i plugged it in i tested a 2nd hand gibson les paul they have in stock and the hofner had a way more usable jazz tone than the les paul which i know is not a popular jazz guitar but i expected a cool neck pup sound , so i was convinced enough to open my wallet ? music stores should carry warning sign's at the door to leave your credit card at home before entering .
