Every so often I'm reminded again that I seem to have been born into the wrong decade. There is so much about the 60's that tickles my fancy.
There was the birth of the American space program, how I'd have loved to experience the hype of that, the hype of Bobby Fischer winning the world chess championship (breaking the soviet hold on it), the political changes in the world as the European colonies across the world gained independence.
There were the cool cars, beautiful women (Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Natalie Wood), the first heart transplant (imagine that!), The Twilight Zone, the invention of the bikini and of course...
...THERE WAS THE MUSIC!
The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan... the list goes on... and on.. and on...
There were also loads of artists which are far less iconic of the era but who's music I also love, even though it predates my birth by 20 years or more. I mean, people don't hesitate to admit that they're Jimi Hendrix or Beatles fans, but I get strange looks from my friends when I mention Dobie Gray, Percy Faith, Pat Boone, Bert Kaempfert or The Seekers!
I mean, most of my friends don't even know the Seekers but I reckon Judith Durham must have one of the best female voices ever. And she's cute (at least, she used to be a decade or so before I was born).
I can only hope that my kids will one day look at some of the contemporary music of my time and think "hey that's flippin' good music, and the girl is pretty hot too - in a vintage kind of way." Could that be Norah Jones, Katie Melua or Dido perhaps?
Now, time for everyone to get out of the closet here. Show us some videos of the music and the artists whom you like even though you shouldn't if you conformed to the tastes and style of your peers and your period.
I'll finish off with one more for which many of my friends would burn me at the stake. But seriously, there is something about this that I actually really like. I'm sure I don't share a taste for vintage Lebanese musicals with a very large audience in South Africa ?

No. You were born at the right time. Otherwise you might have hated this kinda music, AND it probably wouldn't have been as accessible.
I often find myself to stuff from earlier than that even. Just what tickles your fancy or not.

Not as weird as your avatar pic ?
But this is the beauty of music, when I was a teenager and into all things heavy and progressive, there is just no way I could imagine the music I listen to now.
You didn't mention Bulgarian Folk music ?
I have lately been listening to Martin Simpson, IMHO one of the best acoustic guitarists around and he does a bit of delving into the roots of folk music all over the world and music is timeless and there always good stuff to be discovered
