Which guitar parts would you like to have available locally?

I am about to expand The Custom Shop's inventory with a more comprehensive catalog of high quality guitar parts from Japan and the US (CTS) and would like to get an idea of which parts Guitar Forum's knowledgeable members would most like to have readily available locally. Hope I'm not infringing on the forum's rules here. ?

but there many guys wanting to build their own guitars, bodies are relatively easy to do but good quality necks are mostly imported.

A definite possibilty, however this is a "generic" brand now and available just about everywhere in SA.

Bourns make some fine pots too, usually with a bit more of a positive feel underhand.

Irrelevant as far as most knobs go - the hole in the knob is usually smooth. Coarse spline are more common, but replacements (particularly brass shaft ones) are fine.

BTW - solid shaft you need only worry about 250K for Teles and Fender basses.

I've had excellent communication with them before with small orders through one of their US distributors and they're easy to deal with, so it looks like I'll get their high end pots to compliment the regular high quality pots from Japan.

Won't be cheap though! EVH uses them in his Wolfgang range.

There are few things as exciting as building (assembling) your own guitar from parts. The real trick is the little things like fine tuning the setup, intonation, neck angle/string height, having the frets dressed properly by a pro (even on a brand new high quality neck) etc.

I'll have necks and bodies available, initially on order only.

Things I may be interested in are good scratchplates (J & P), screws, thumbrest/tugbar that's not hollow plastic, necks (P). I have one but others may be interested in Hipshot D-tuner or other variations.

Although my initial aim is not to be a general luthier supplier I will have some of these items, bone nut blanks, screws, etc and expand as I go along. It's all a matter of items that will sell and not lie on the shelf gathering dust.

Well, you can go to WD at http://www.wdmusic.com/necks.html and see if there's anything you like. I am a registered distributor with them and I bring in one-off necks for people locally anyway. Initially I'll do orders only, payable up front and you'll wait about 3 weeks with USPS Priority, or 5 days, depending on whether you'll want to pay UPS or DHL prices. First I check availability with the rep and if IN STOCK only then do you pay and I order.

I will be bringing in high quality Strat and Tele replacement necks and bodies from Japan, which is as good as anything from the US, if fact they supply many stores in the US.

No dealer in SA will just bring in necks and bodies and then let them lie on the shelf, at the current high cost of importing them. You've seen what happens to dealers who bite off more than they can chew!

CTS is just f****** nuts!

A minimum of 600 pots (per value and taper) must be purchased for one to become a small-time distributor. I need about 14 different types (including push-pulls) and thus have to purchase to a total of around R350 000.00, before shipping and Customs TAX. ?

See why we don't have these things available locally?

Contrary to what most people believe, CTS pots are made in Taiwan and NOT in the US!
You CAN get them locally at some music stores, but only in DiMarzio packaging at ridiculous prices.

IMHO Bourns pots will be a much better proposition for the SA market. ?

Not sure if heads have been mentioned already? I am looking for a quality replacement set for my Ibanez 12-string.
Also not sure I have seen fretting wire/kits on previous posts.
