Not easier = cruddy sound quality and there are multiple guitar layers in there. All sounds like amp drives to me. Main guitar sounds like a Tele into a Fenderish amp over another rhythm guitar track with quite a bit more drive (difficult to pick that one out). The main guitar kicks in an octaver for the main theme. Solo might be neck pickup of a Tele into a Marshall.
It sounds cleaner in the staccato chording though? or am i deceived??
The octaver makes the guitar sound quite grungy and pushes the amp a little harder, but it's actually not very distorted overall. So when he turns off the octaver for the rhythm part, it does seem to clean up a lot.
