Hi everyone.
I was wondering what you guys use and recommend:
One multiple effects box, or several single effect pedals ?
I might join a band soon, and I will have to upgrade my gear. So do I get a neat Zoomy-type box, or a whole string of Bossy-pedals?

what i've read about zoom pedals is DON"T BUY ONE!!! if you want to get a multi effects pedal go for a digitech or a boss(like a ME-50,GT-8)... what effects do you want? you see if you only want distortion/overdrive,wah and a noise gate then it's not really worth getting a multi effects pedal, but if you want delay, phase, chorus, noise gate,overdrive/distortion,wah,etc then a multi effects pedal is the way to go...
but from what i've seen,if you gonna buy a multi effects pedal you should buy a wah pedal separately...also multi effects have built in noise gates, compressors, tuners, etc which are pretty cool
i've used the ME-50 before(i sold it yesterday ?) and it's a really neat multi effects pedal,i enjoyed it but it had way to much stuff for what i want/need,BUT the wah on it was shit so i decided to rather go analog and buy the only 4 pedals i want(overdrice, phase, wah, decimator).
so it all really depends what you need it for,how many effects you want to have in your arsenal...

string of boss/ibanez/rat pedals 8)

The problem which multi effects pedals are, you get very multi effect sound...There are some amazing multi effect pedals some with actuall tubes in them... But i still believe in chosing each pedal to use...
Like a Ibanez TS9 overdrive, Boss DD-7, MXR stereo chorus, and some wah you like...You can create much more of you own sound...

I'll be honest...i broke mine the first day i had it...pushed down to hard on one of the pedals and pushed it right into the unit..
easy enough to fix but i was a bit surprised..
It has a miriad of effects that might be overwhelming for a beginner..Iam already gassing for a some seperate units from the Boss stable...
It really all depends on what YOU want...

I'd say after learning the songs of the band you're going to join, find out exactly what sorta style it is and from that determine what effects need to be applied.
It's all cool having loads of effects and options but what if there are only a few clean parts that require slight compression/delay/reverb or a crazy part that requires OD/phaser/delay/reverb whatever.
Or the songs actually don't require more than a little delay?
This way you maybe save some money and get everything you need to get started and nothing more that will sometimes leave you thinking "wait I have all these effects maybe I should just throw them in and not waste them" (have heard of this before) lol and start going a bit overkill.
This simple method is the way some producers approach albums.

I`m a fan of the pod x3 or the x3 live.....buy one of these over sweetwater, works out at bout R3500 - R4000. Try to get a nice clean solid state amp, like the fender FM series. It`s got gut mid, treble and bass. The neat thing bout it is u can bypass the built in EQ of the fender and basically use the pod as ur "amp head". Or buy a stack if u have R30 0000......

The cab with the FM stack with vintage 30's probably the best speakers for OD guitars imo. I considered it before I had enough cash for the Mesa.
Surprised it's that expensive though? I knew a guy selling the whole stack for 10k and it wasn't that old.

Probably needed to say a stack of ur choice....like mesa cab and amp.... ?b did`nt mean the fender stack

i want a marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 head and a marshall cab,that's like R20 000 for 'em both

oh hehe :-[
Yeah I would say last month 30k is about right, after hearing about how expensive everything due the dollar going up it's probably more.
The Mesa rectifier cab is around 15k at Marshall Music now.

Hmmm this is a very difficult question to answer and to be honest everything here will be opinion. So here's mine:
I had a boss gt6 (when that was the best) and then a podxt live for quite a while and just recently started buying single pedals.
Multi effects: Single pedals:
Are lighter/ more portal Heavy/ hard to transport esp flying
Much cheaper for what you get Expensive if you want lots
simple everything in 1 Lots of thing in the chain that can go wrong (power, cables)
usually have amp simulation/ very versatile YOU'LL HAVE TO GET A FAIRLY GOOD AMP
New/ better ones keep coming out You won't outlive a tube screamer or analog delay so once you got it thats it
IMO are never going to sound analog IMO sound amazing
So ja it depends i suppose, you have to weigh those factors up. For me i travel quite a lot and you can't take an amp on a plane, so i've got my single pedals on a board and bought a vox tonelab (original small desktop one) and use that as a preamp when i get somewhere and they give me a cheap amp.
So the summary for me was more inconvenience and much more expensive, but so worth it.
