Your own "personalized" gear

So... I've heard of many peeps putting things like their names on headstocks of their modded guitars, etc. But it's not often I see these. Also, I'm sure it's not only the axes that periodically become personalized.

So I'm curious to see what some people have done to make their gear truly their own. I'll start ?

My Strat case. I bought it second hand, and it had originally been spraypainted with a satanic pentagram ??? Not ideal, so I made my own slight change...

Basically a highly-adhesive, shiny vinyl-type material cut to my specs.

And this is the headstock of a guitar that I shall eventually one day finish... ?

Don't even ask how I did that one :-[

so just a sticker then?? how long u had it on there? hard wearing ?

Had it on for about 4 years. As shiny as it was when it was new, this is similar stuff to what they use to make the lettering for the names they put on boats.

Only delicate parts are the minute joins between the letters (eg. between the e-l) if you catch something on them.

woudl be super lovely of you if u could get the name of the stuff- which 3M product if thats what they used??
i am thinking great chrstmas idea for a friend of mine. !

EDIt : for myself, i have not personalised my stuff with anything that relates directly to me, but every strat I get I change the neck plate from a blank one to one with something on it. so each guitar as its own differet neckplate.

Will find out for you, though the earliest I'll have an answer is tomorrow evening...

It was done for me by a company called "3s Branding" up here in JHB, so I'm just emailing them to help me identify exactly what it was.

That's pretty cool NG. Just looking at the headstock, would that happen to be a Tele-style axe? Birds eye maple?

Cool thread! I sticker my case up nicely and tend not to mind the odd ding on my guitars.
..... but do I really have to haul this one out again:

Got it new, had it for about 15 years, been round the world with me and survived some grunge era carving... MIJ Fender, needs neck sorted out because I used to do dives and bends from the headstock ?
Duct tape for the win.
Edit: Singemonkey and Renesongs have both played it... it exists!

Cheers VellaJ. Yep Birdseye Tele neck that we built a while ago, or rather I did. My partner normally has his hand in on most of the guitars, like the shaping, carving and wiring while I'm stuck in the spray booth. As luck would have it, I got to make that one from start to finish so I thought I'd put my little "brand" on the back of the headstock to celebrate. It's the only one so far though, but I'm sure I'll get to put my name on a few more in future... :-[

If I may ask, what exactly did you use to get your signature on the headstock? Special pen of some description, before finishing?

I have a vinyl mask cut and then airbrush the paint on in whatever colour is needed. I then flat the dried paint lightly with 1200 grit and put the final coat of clear over the top of that. The only downside to this technique is you are pretty limited as to how small you can go and how thin the lines are.

I inspected the "Love Rock Model" you did for Joel, I'd have to give it a 10 out of 10, perfection.
Any idea what you'd charge to let's say remove the "Love Rock" and do someone's name in it's place?

That's a great looking neck. Do you do strat necks? Maybe a birdseye with rosewood slab?
