lol yeah it is quite a funny topic.
But a serious one *serious face*
+1 to Spyke's post
But to add, Never 'whip' your head when head banging!
The "pulling back and smoothly thrusting" motion is what I'm talking about (do a whiping motion with a piece or string or towel to see what I mean)
It creates extra snap/increased force at the end of the item being whipped, hence it being a torture method.
I see guys doing that a lot and that can cause serious injury.
Another important factor is to keep the momentum of your head smooth! Don't have jaggered-stoppy movements it makes your muscles work harder. Swing your arm in a circle and stop to go the other direction quickly...you'll feel your shoulder working a little harder to change the direction. Same thing applies to your neck and head.
Use your neck to nod your head lol not too heavy though.
The longer your hair is the less 'nodding' you'll need to do too as your hair will do the rest...Kinda like those
Olympic gymnastic girls with their strings.
Compare Kerry King's full neck and upper body movement headbang...
...to the guys from
Amon Amarth who probably head bang in a 5-10 cm radius when circle head banging.
Notice how their bodies are fairly still and calm.
To conclude:
- Plant feet and keep a good powerful stance (power stance) that if you get disoriented, you won't fall over.
- Watch out for cables that you might slip on.
- Back straight.
- No whip-motion.
- Use momentum.
- Grow your hair dirt long! and you'll look as cool as this guy ---> 8) Although he's bald so that doesn't apply here. ???
