Keira, what's the basis for payment here? Do you get a fee for the session? Do you get a cut from sales? Both?
as a session muso (cos i'm NOT part of his band) i only get a session fee, and NOT a cut of the sales....... and i should get a credit(mention) on the cd sleeve (in small print ? )
however that session fee was pretty good for 1 days work.......... and i got extra cos i had to transcribe the pieces 1st and being a full day ...

Thanks for sharing. Very cool to hear how this goes in SA. Nice to hear some of these guys are skilled musicians and singers when much of what you hear is people being unable to match live what they do in the studio.
oh Rudi Claase is amazingly skilled......... he plays piano at the highest level everything from classical to jazz , in fact in a quiet moment while he was on the phone i was softly playing thru the jazz standard "misty" on my acoustic while sitting on the couch .and he just started singing along ...he knew all the words and the melody .......
his original music is very almost quasi classical/operatic....... and his voice suits that ...... but like i mentioned his orchestration skills are incredible...... and he writes all the parts and arranges it himself....... normally people outsource that to a classical conductor to score the orchestration ..... so yes i would say .... his skills in composing arranging and performing are at a higher level........... and above all he's a lovely man ...... and easy to work with in the studio.
heres a clip of what he does ... not your average afrikaans band ......much more modern/ classical BUT the cd i did the session for him was more light typical xmas type songs
but watch this video.......his and Zita's voice soars i love this production and he did it all himself ...
i'm sure the afrikaans rock fans (fokofpolisiekar fans ) will not find this style their cup of tea or pint of beer ............. or rather Klippie's & coke
but i find this very impressive and glad to have had the opportunity to do a session with him.....
to me this is up to world class standard in that "modern quasi classical genre" and it's all happening in my back yard, in Pretoria
btw this cd from which this video was made (Die Engele sing) went Gold in one day on the 1st day of it's release...... not too shabby when most SA acts battle to sell
