My first Electric - now with a pic

Hey chaps,

So I have enjoyed learning on my acoustic.... but now its time for my GAS turn!

Any recommendations?

Budget R4k and I plan to make use of the sale that "the other music shop" is having this weekend.

I see the Fenders are out of my price range ☹

I would like it to be a versatile guitar that could pull off a reasonable amount of anything you throw at it.

Will be used with my CUBE80XL

I don't think that Fenders are out of your price range. Buy second hand. This is important. You will get a far better guitar for your money. It's not like buying a second hand car. They don't have many moving parts and those aren't the expensive parts anyway.

Look around for a 2nd hand Made-in-Mexico Fender.

IMHO versatile = Strat. Surely with a sale on, some of the MIM ones would be just within your price range?

Alternatively what about one of the MIC Tokais? I hear good things about these, especially their LP models...

+1 on the 2nd hand kit. Look around for a well looked after 2nd hand guitar. You'll get far more guitar bang for your buck that way.

I am going to try and haggle at the sales and if I dont come right then will just wait and be patient till the right Strat comes my way

Second hand is a good start.

As mentioned earlier this week in another thread, look at Yamaha's Pacifica 112Y, also the Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster 50's. Vintage also makes good instruments at the sub R4000 price range.

By Fender you mean Strat or are the Tele's included?

Teles are good too but the Strat is more versatile... (this is controversial, I think Teles are right up there but for first electric...)

congrats Gary thats beautiful ...... i love maple necks............. and that looks a beauty.......... as singemonkey asked ....more details please..........

and btw thats a great 1st electric and hopefully you'll add to the collection but a fender strat is a guitar that you can keep for life .......... so you have not fallen into that trap of buying a cheapie that needs to be upgraded and another mid range one that too needs upgrading .so a good move......... to buy something good 1st time it's just better economic scence as one loses money in the multiple trades of buying and selling till you get to eventually buying the stratocaster or the les paul

Well its a 50's Mexican and after googling the serial number I found it was built in 2007 in a factory in Mexico with a name starting with a E or S (cant remember)

To say I am a happy chappy is a huge understatement 8)

Had to go ever so slightly over budget ... it was a GREAT deal(bought brand new)... OH and this was actually a pressie from my wife to me ?

What other info were you guys looking for?

Good stuff. Never really been a strat fan, but you cant go wrong with that as your first electric. Even if you dont end up continuing with it, I doubt you will make a loss on what you paid.
