Apparently they measured about 1500 times just to exclude exactly that. The only worry now is systematic errors. If only someone else could quickly set up another CERN type collider and another OPERA detector somewhere else, this could be excluded. It would only take a couple of billion.
15,000 measurements were reportedly done ...and yes, the experiment is going to be repeated in about 3 years' time they say.
But going back to the article cited above....what the author says is quite "acceptable" in terms of modern string- and brane theories....highly theoretical and spooky stuff. He mentions the multi dimensional approach of such and he mentions the graviton which is predicted to hide along with the Hicks boson, in one or more of the higher dimensions (this is exactly what CERN is looking for in their high energy collisions), but he somehow forgets to explain why gravitons or bosons do not also
re-enter our 4 dimensions in the same way highly excited neutrinos do. He calculates that a neutrino from this world would spend about 60 nanosecs in a higher dimension before falling back again to complete the trip to Italy and that would account for the faster than light travel.
If gravitons and bosons could do the same (he does not say why they can't) they would have been observed right here in our world as well. The author of the article should be celebrating at this moment since the CERN observation must be seen as hard evidence of what he (and others) have predicted some time ago (according to him). So I'm a bit confused by his article.
We must remember that the boytjies at CERN are top-notch scientists and that's why this anomaly is receiving so much attention. And if their measurements were wrong, it will be discovered sooner or later by equally gifted people.
