Orange CR6S Stereo Micro CRUSH PiX

Right, so I bought this amp as I want to bring it back from Korea next year. I wanted to get one of these small amps to add to my lineup as well. Started off by looking at the Marshall MS-2 but according to a video on Youtube by the tone king, the MS-2 was rubish compared to this. Now, I'm not saying that this is as good a rockerverb (duh!) or anything like that, but the sound you get out of it for 6watts is powerful!

It's got
- a built in tunes,
- 2X4" speakers,
- a wood body (Marshall and fender micro amps use plastic and that makes the amps sound a bit kak!)
- clips along the side so you can hook a guitar strap on and carry it on your hip
- a headphone input
- a aux in for a ipod and get this,
- the amp runs on 2 9 volt batteries (it's got a power cable insert as well!!)

I like heavy overdrive and this little amp struggles yes. But put the headphones on, turn the headphone volume low and krank the amp's gain, tone and volume to 10, and you have a really cool sound. Using my new Majest LP relic guitar and it's sounding pretty good.

How does it compare price-wise to the MS-2? My MS-2 obviously doesn't have nearly the features nor the power of the Orange, (Volume, clean channel, drive channel, tone, headphone out, power in, single 9V, whereas the orange seems to be more along the lines of a conventional amp) but for R300 i think it's pretty cool...

Also, the MS-2 is 1W, the Orange is 6W...

I gotta say man... An amp like this isn't going to sound like anything. Guitar rig and Amplitube will do a far better job. Why bother? You need a 10 to 12 inch speaker and some glowing glass bottles. Otherwise, why not go software?

Also, the MS-2 is 1W, the Orange is 6W...

It's nearly twice the price. But in a way worth it as you are getting more power and your tone is a bit better than the Marshall.

Actually thought of that as well.

But one of the main reasons I got this is because it is something that you won't get in RSA. According to a mate of mine from MusicMate, you can't get these in RSA and they need to be specially imported. I'm currently in South Korea so I'm trying to get gear that none of you folk will have in RSA (see my new guitar, Majest, further down in the your gear thread) and bring it back to SA. Besides, it runs on batteries and has a aux in. So it's portable and I use it for more than a amp. I am also planning to bring it back and that's why I did not buy a "proper" amp here as I will not be able to pack it in my suitcase and bring it back. Those are the original reasons...

Luckily, this following story also contributed as a positive to buying the amp. I am working as a English teacher in Korea. You work on a year contract. In our apartment, we were provided with a desktop and I bought myself a laptop here. Since my wife was using the desktop, I used the laptop. Now as per your suggestion to get guitar rig, this would have worked as I would load it on the laptop and jammed. However, last week Thursday, the desktop got the bluescreen of death and telling my Korean boss that it is broken is a bit of a mission and will cause possible friction between us. Now had I gone with Guitar rig, (and me being married ? ), I would not be able to jam as my wife now uses the laptop to surf the net and watch different series, i.e. I have no laptop (cause series get preferenece in this relationship!!! ? ? ) So in this case guitar rig would have failed as I am actually a working tourist and not as settled as I would be back home in SA. We are basically one step above living out of our suitcases and because this is a year contract, we are not making a lot of effort to settle in.

Neway, long explanation, but glad with my purchase. Besides, the tone the little beast got from the "link to the cab" video I posted below is great. Call me old school, but I like to have the physicality of a amp. I can also say that it's rather "cute" as everything is smaller as on a normal Orange. :-[ :-[ :-[

Besides, I classify it as a practice/on-the-road amp. And the tone king refers to these as toys. So in a way, not a real amp but IMO worth buying for the situation I am in.

The Orange is in a completely different class to the MS2 ...like compaing a ferari to a dilapidated mazda 323 ...

I have lusted after one of these long time , bring me one back please ? or if you not happy with yours i buy it off you.....

Well, if you want to, we can strike a deal. I bought mine for 130 000 Won (currently about R900 but the $ is very high right now so it might be cheaper later in the year). Postage is cheap from here (I'd say about R500) so PM me if you want to wax a deal.

thanks , appreciated but 1400 is a tad high .... this is a 50 quid amp in the uk.
