I'm not using any effects there other than the vst's mentioned. I quad-tracked the rhythm guitars and at the part just before 0:30 I just panned one guitar hard left and one hard right. I didn't use any tremolo... I don't really know what part you're referring to cos I don't hear any tremolo or phasing myself.
The long note at the end of each of those short phrases (at exactly 0:25, 0:28 and 0:31 but also throughout that section of the song) has a definite trill to it. What it sounds like to me is an interference beat (
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Beat_%28acoustics%29) where two signals with slightly different frequencies alternately augment and then cancel each other to cause an oscillating volume.
Maybe it's just a quality of the specific VST you're using to get the overdrive tone. Either way, I like the sound of it.
Ah Ok I see what you meant. Yeah I didn't add any effects, but the notes I played for those parts at 0:25 make up what is known as a 'panic chord'. I looked at the link you posted, I'm guessing those notes create the 'beat'. The riff was basically:
D#-------------------------
A#-------------------------
F#----------------5-5-5--
C#---7--7--7-7-9-9-9--
G#---7--7--7-7----------
C#---7--7--7-7----------
D#--------------------------
A#--------------------------
F#----------------5---------
C#---7--7--7-7---9---9---
G#---7--7--7-7-----8-----
C#---7--7--7-7-----------
