So my parts from guitarfetish arrived today and I've just put them in and my Squier is a new guitar! It is now my favourite guitar even though its my cheapest! Its ridiculous! Despite being a chinese squier the neck is every bit as playable as my MIM Fender Strat! I upgraded the tuners with Wilkinson EZ-lock locking tuners and the bridge was already upgraded when I got it from Chris77.
Now for what I really wanted to tell you about...the pickup configuration!
It has a P90 neck (humbucker sized GFS Mean 90), a single coil in the middle (Tonerider City Limits bridge pickup), and a humbucker in the bridge (Generator Bridge).
The bridge single coil put in the middle helps to balance out the pickups a bit since its hotter so it blends a bit better with the P90 and humbucker. The humbucker is 16k ohms which is hot and great for solos or even classic rock and the advantage of the high output is that when its split its still 8k ohms which is terribly weak like you usually get when you split a humbucker. I also raided 2 old playstation controls for SPDT switches and used them to have a switch for splitting the humbucker and the other switch is a neck-on switch for turning the neck pickup on in every position.
I LOVE the sound of the P90, i realise its not a 'real' P90 but it is definitely a single coil and it is definitely fat! With some light overdrive it is SUCH a great blues sound and without the overdrive it works great for clean too.
Here are 2 sound clips of the guitar with me just messing around, just to give an idea of the sounds not my playing ?

Clip 1 the positions are: (Humbucker is split for entire clip) Each position is for about 30 seconds with some single notes and then some chords
Neck + Middle
Middle + Bridge
All 3 Pickups (super twang!)
Neck + Bridge (Tele)
Bridge Alone (so you can hear the split humbucker on its own)
Clip 2: (Humbucker is in humbucker mode the whole clip)
Neck (P90)
Bridge (Humbucker)
Neck + Bridge (With drive at first, where I switch the the bridge for a second for comparison purposes then back to both, then I turn off overdrive pedal so you can hear the neck + bridge cleaner but still some amp drive..)
