Malkav I was thinking about having the 20 - 24 fret on my RGs scalloped because I am under the impression that it makes it easier to get notes to sound more purely in that register then. I'm also aware that scalloping allows for better control over vibrato and that could help out in that area. However I'm not sure if my views are correct and would appreciate any feedback on the topic, remember we're talking about frets 20 - 24 not full neck and I only want to know how it would affect there ?
Manfred-Klose Go check this out: http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/scalloped.htm Well i dont believe it will make you play faster, but you will have more control on those 4 frets, will take some time to get use to. On what guitar do you want to do it?
Malkav On my Ibanez RG's...one is a RG1527 and the other is a modified japanese RG of who's model I have no idea ? but I love em both ? Both are Rosewood fretboards with 24 frets and Edge pro style bridges, if you wanna see my bad quality photos of them look in the your gear section under my stuffs ?
Manfred-Klose Well if your going to do it yourself, i'd recommend that you practice on a crappy guitar first, and then if it s a success, move on to the ibanez. I did scalloping on one of my crappy guitars, still waiting for the body, then i can assemble it and test it out. Well life is too short to spend your time playing on a normal guitar!!!lol
deanBailey @ Chad, I could find out for you but I really don't the think the difference in tone would be THAT drastic. Karl Sanders (from Nile) Custom: His entire bottom neck is scalloped...then again that is the "MIDI neck".
Malkav I have to admit I'm alot more interested in what it can do in terms of playing technique etc when only done to those 4 frets, I mean there's gotta be a reason people get it done to those 4 and I just wanna know if I'm correct in my thinking ? @Dean that guitar looks sick...sucks that Nile aren't coming anymore though....
Manfred-Klose @Dean that guitar looks sick...sucks that Nile aren't coming anymore though.... What!!! when did this happen?? So everything is cancelled???
deanBailey @ Manfred: Yeah man they canceled because they only hit 10% of the ticket sales due to the dollar rising. I'm not 100% sure if that 10% is nationwide but they tried to have at least one show in one city but that still wasn't enough I think.
deanBailey Chad Adam Browne wrote @Dean that guitar looks sick...sucks that Nile aren't coming anymore though.... Off Topic: Yeah KxK makes some sweet metal guitars. Here's Dallas' (the other guitarist from Nile):
