Solo-Masters

I was chatting to a mate who is onto Toast Masters and the way that works is that they talk, and get criticised on certain aspects like vocabulary, delivery, body language etc.

it got me thinking, I'd love to have some good pointers on my soloing from other guitarists. Especially constructive critique on my delivery and note selection.

So here is one of my recent efforts, please listen, the solo isn't far into it, maybe about 2/3 of the way. I did all the guitar work in this recording, not bass though.

Please no "it's so good" or "nothing wrong there," not that I mind hearing it, but back up your reasoning then please. if I wanted that I'd have asked my mum.... ?

Two things.

You have become much better since I last heard one of your comp entries ?

The guitar solo is a bit far into the mix, it can stand out a bit more and not only louder, maybe a bit more agressive tone OR if you wanted it to sound more mellow, maybe a smoother brighter tone is required to cut the mix better.

The only other critique I can deliver is an more of a preference for me, stronger vibrato in this case, but that's up to you to decide how you want the solo to sound, feel wise.

Thanks EZ, stronger vibrato on the held notes? I had a similar thought when I was listening to an older recording. For some reason I always end my solos of on a big note. and I don't add enough vibrato.

Yeah on the held notes. I see this with my own recordings also. When I play it sounds like strong vibrato but on the recording it doesn't come across as such. Not sure why, I prob need stronger (wider and faster) vibrato I guess.
