MNM7 Howdy I turning to you GFSA members for a little insight. I'm looking for a distortion pedal that gives me that stack amp like sound when playing through a Marshall stack or, a Mesa Boogie dual rectifier etc. I don't have the money for a stack and for the venue where I play (church building) a stack amp is just not practical. So I'm looking for a stompbox that creates that type of sound. I also don't want to go buy a Pod HD. Cause even though it will probably get me the closest sound to it, I don't want digital. So fellow GFSA mates. Please help me, or give me suggestions and preferable if its available in South Africa. I do know of the Boss ST-2 pedal which from the demo's I've seen and having played a bit on it myself is quite nice. But I would like to widen the range of possible pedals. Thanks ?
AlanRatcliffe For DIing or to get Marshally tones from a smaller amp? For DI, look at the Tech 21 British for Marshall, the US Steel for Mesa (or California for early MKII Mesa Boogie): http://www.tech21nyc.com/products/sansamp/characterseries.html
MNM7 Not for DIing...playing into an amp, at this moment a 50w solid state. Looking into getting a small valve amp later on. but yeah...Getting a stack amp sound with a pedal through a small amp. I like the tone of a Marshall Stack. So lets work with that.
AlanRatcliffe OK - the amp obviously has an influence, so YMMV, but take a look at the MI Audio Crunchbox, Carl Martin Plexitone and the Radial Hot British. The Tech 21 would still work too (the newer ones have a switch to turn off the speaker simulator) - but I'm not sure if they are freely available.
MIKA-the-better-one Fulltone OCD Catalinbread WIIO TC Mojomojo but get a tube amp or whatever you use will some tame with an SS
AlanRatcliffe MIKA the better one wrote Fulltone OCD Catalinbread WIIO Neither of which are available in SA (as requested by the OP). Isn't the DLS the more Marshally Catalinabread pedal? I wouldn't describe the OCD as having a Marshallflavour either - more a Fulldrive on steroids.
ActionArnie +1 for the Hot British ... they float by on gumtree from time to time .... super super pedal, I'm so sorry I sold mine. I also played it through a Marshall AVT for a while when my main amp was being fixed and it sounded good with that too.
MIKA-the-better-one sorry I just read stack..... OCD with a tube amp gives a pretty big sound ..... Also the mxr dist 3...... I would not use the boss p2
MNM7 @Alan: My OP said preferably available in SA ?. If I must import I would look into it. I just would like to try and support our local shops first. @VellaJ: OP fix'd
MIKA-the-better-one MNM7 wrote I just would like to try and support our local shops first. Admirable but expensive choice
VellaJ MNM7 wrote @VellaJ: OP fix'd Aha! Sorry, I was feeling like a bit of a noob, didn't know what was going on :-[ Thanks!

I've been to proguitarshop.com. I'm familiar with Andy;s demo's. I know of tonefactor and take2...but you can't argue a price down online. I know it's cause they're already cheaper but hey. We have to atleast give our guys support. its not their fault the prices are high due to overheads.
EttieneB Have u tried the mi audio tubezone! Its not Marshall in a box but gets very close! And it sounds huge!
