Demo's! Let me know what you think?
joealien22
Hey guys,
My band, joe alien, recently recorded these 2 demos. We are hoping to record an EP soon, so any thoughts would be great.

Well you score ten points with just the name of the first song (with me at least, I'm a Thundercats fan). Had a hard time making out the lyrics though. South Africans are generally guilty of over articulating, so at least you're on the other side of that line. Otherwise great sound.

I like it man. You've got a bit of a Cake/Incubus groove going. I like it. To be honest, the mixing isn't too great. The recording quality isn't necessarily bad, it's just unbalanced. The bassist sticking to the higher register and being way too loud in the mix makes the sound a bit empty, but you've got some very nice vocals. The guy has a nice timbre to his voice.
If you sort out the mixing, and tell the bassist to add some deeper grooves to the songs I think you've got a winning combination!
EDIT: I'd just like to add that the bass problem is mainly in Thundercats, in Darren's song it's a lot better. Have to say though, the vocals are a lot more powerful in Thundercats and seem more full.
Not trying to be too critical, just giving my thoughts. I like your style though.

Thanks for your comments. Duly noted. Will keep all that in mind when doing the next few tracks.
Glad you like it.

Very Incubus (vocals + structure) and RHCP'y (verse bass lines). I liked it. Can't give much more than that since I'm a major mixing amateur ?
